CD data

hi all im in the middle of ripping my CD's to a Novafidelity x4015663, the x40 retrieves album title and song titles from the cd but sometimes the information is incorrect,ie wrong album or wrong artist and its usully in german, is this quite common? jim

Must be using a German info site... There isnt a setting to pick country or language is there?

As Grant has said, it sounds like your box-o-tricks is possibly not set up for English.

Can you access the files on your network?
You can amend the tags using the excellent Mp3Tag.

hi,ive gone back into settings and it set for english, it only seems to do it with the odd one all the rest are fine:scratch: once ripped i can edit and tag them properly. Grant, its the info on the cd itself im refering to not info like album art which i download from google, the WAV rips sound great so its no big deal if its just a few. i was just curious as to why, cheers jim

The databases the rippers used are not compiled by record companies, they're compiled by end users, so a lot depends on which database your device is pointed at.
A lot hangs on the diligence of end users.

Something has just crossed my mind - you're ripping to WAV, and WAV tagging is not widely supported.
Does the player actually read the tags, or does it just read the file names?

Chris,the database is from novafidelity,its their latest one. unless i have to manually tag , the x40 does everything itself,just pop in a cd select WAV or FLAC, there are some others,and rip! even tagging manually is dead easy,:) im guessing it reads whatever info is on the cd? jim

99.99% of the time there is no CD text info on the CD.
Few players out there can read CD text. Sony seem to be the only company interested in it.
There is TOC (table of content) information on the CD (it needs it to be able to play) but it doesn't store any information about artist/album etc.

I would expect that your server box retrieves the information from the internet.
I looked at the device you have and I see it has a network connection, so I assume you've hooked it up.

Chris, yes i do to get album art, the database came on a cd so it can be used without connection. i remember having a sony cdp that showed cd text, my old arcam cd73t did too, very cool!:)

Still if its only an occasional one then shouldnt be too much of a problem. Had the first cambridge one that came out and it cost a lot in the day and was a pain. this one seems to work well according to reviews.:)

this version dosnt have an amp, more expensive than the one that does! Its a great bit of kit,i cant really fault it.without wishing to open a can of worms, WAV sounds better than FLAC(a bit):sofa: using web interface to edit/tag is easy though it could do with an app to use with a tablet, im using bubbleUPnP at the moment which is ok.this was a tad pricey Grant, managed a 10% discount though:)

Might be the encoder version they are using. flac is better for tagging I think. should sound the same if done right:)

To be fair Grant there was little in it , maybe just the mood I was in.tagging isn't an issue with wav on the x40. 2TB allows around 2500 CD's on wav so space ain't an issue. While I'm here I'm going to need to back up at some point, any recommendations on hard drives? I'm not very computer savvy, I was recommended western digital, are they all much of a muchness?

Depends on needs and price but the WD my books are good drives. Ive got 2 that Ive had for years and both still working. size od a hardback volume thus the name, and have their own psu. they do a world book too that networks allowing you to connect to it all over the world through wifi.. It was more than my old brain at time could handle tbh. I am never anywhere anyways;) you will get a 2 tb for about a ton or so Id think. I am glad the rpi came along as for the small outlay it does me grand.
