Idly Upgrade Thinking...

Hey up...

So, since I joined AoS I have gone from this:

Marantz DV4300 (used as DVD & CDP)

REGA BRIO 3
>
TANNOY REVOLUTION DC4

To this:

THORENS TD-150+M75&JicoSAS////Clearaudio Nano Phono
>
MARANTZ CD6000OSE KI [+SONY BDP S790]
>
REGA BRIO 3
>
PMC GB1

As you can imagine it is sounding a lot better than it did.

So now I am idly thinking about where to go next and wondering if anyone had any opinions (I should probably now hide behind the sofa)...


I am thinking ditch the amp and CDP and get a matching pair so I can use ONE REMOTE (this is important to me). Thinking maybe used REGA SATURN/ELICIT or used CREEK DESTINY 2 with a Destiny CDP.

Also thinking I might have to then up the speakers. Here I am more constrained by something my other half is going to allow in the front door. Personally I would like to try out the Equinox for sale on here, but there is no way they would pass muster. I also need something placable relatively close (say a foot) from the back wall. (side walls not an issue) We have a very large room. I was wondering if it was worth swapping out the GB1 for a pair of FB1i on the eBay. I could probably do that for just a couple of hundred on top of what I could get for the GB1, and OH might not even notice for about ten minutes that the speakers got larger...

It's just idle thinking at the moment, but if I see a really good deal on something I may well just jump on it. Any thought welcome....

Why not get a programmable remote, and buy what equipment you want?

Personally, I would lose the CD player, as I have never been keen on the Marantz KI editions.
I have never heard the amp, so can't comment on that.

The cdp stands out to me as a weak point.

Yep, cdp going but I'm mainly playing records at the moment so it's the amp and speakers route that I find more interesting.

I tried a Nag 200 and a Denon 160. The M75 kills them both.

Amazing how times change. Last time I listened to one in 1977, the M75/6 was standard issue for Garrard SP25s and BSR MP60s and the M75ED was the default choice for the Pioneer PL12D, but you'd never have rated them any higher than that.

I don't think it's the times that have changed, just the stylus.

I once went to a guys house running GB1's from an Arcam amp, and it sounded awful!

I also used to own some FB1+'s, and at the time I thought they were tons better than their smaller brothers.
