I too have been stealing in to the forum picking up stuff from you guys, so its time to formally get into A of S.
I like the friendly attitude here :)
Been a hifi buff for a good while.
I am in Malaysia, 54 yrs old now.
Seems i have gravitated towards vintage stuff with the rejuvenation of 2 td 124s, a few old Sansuis, a JBL L200 and acqusition of a pair of NS1000s.
Mainly vinyl, and CD, recently into streaming when i picked up a used Squeezebox.
Musical tastes quite varied.
Mainly rock and alternative, also more vocal stuff and jazz.

td 124 mk II, V15 III, Graham 1.5,
td 124 mk II, Nagaoka MP11, SME3012 II,
Rega Planar 2 Denon DL103R,
Marantz CD 63, CD 52, Squeezebox

Sansuis Au 70, AU 111, AU 9500.

Yamaha NS1000M, JBL L200 modded to 3 way, Rogers LS3 5A 15 ohm
Oh ya, i also have Pioneer A400X, TDL RTL3 and the Rega that i have lent to a pal!

Thank you for having me on board.

Hi Shahrin
Welcome to the forum :), some very nice equipment you have there
Thorens turntables and a Rega too, to get the best from your LP's

Similarly lots of jazz here, although I am listening to Frank Zappa today
who had quite an interest in Jazz - seeing it as a different way of playing
Make a Jazz Noise Here, and Jazz from Hell being two albums with a
nod to Jazz.

Post some images of your system when you can, and join in the discussions
as AOS is the friendliest forum- and often/ always the funniest too:cool:

Cheers / Chris

Yes Shut up and play your guitar, and Frank Zappa Guitar, are a must.
Franks uncanny ability on tracks like Ship Ahoy, and Pink Napkins
are real treasures. I always am amused at his precision on
tracks like Canadian Customs and Republicans to be able to
translate what occurs in real life , then in sound.

Give those tracks a listen if you can.

Cheers / Chris

Welcome to AoS Shahrin,

Always good to welcome a new member from so far away (geographically that is, though with the internet distance looses its meaning).

You have some fine equipment there - would love to see a photo of your Thorens decks, especially the one fitted with a Graham arm! :)

Enjoy the forum

Regards
Barry (Thorens TD124 lover and also a Zappa fan)

Your Thorens decks look lovely. The arm board for the Graham tone arm would look better painted black, and better still if it had a chamfer on the left hand inner edge to match that of the deck.

I see your SME 3012 is a Mk. II version with a split conterweight. Following on from my reply to you concerning use of your Denon 103R cartidge in the arm, I can only repeat my opinion that there is no technical reason why the SME arm should not be a good match with the cartridge. I have used a Denon 103 in my SME 3012 (on a TD124/II) with secure tracking at 1.5g.

Hello Shahrin. Welcome to AOS.

I like your choice of equipment. Some classic vintage gear there.

You'll find there's a great appreciation for older top quality Hi-Fi here.

Enjoy the forum,
Geoff.

Thank you Barry and Geoff
I got that armboard from a fella in the UK cut out for SME/Graham as a pressie for sourcing a top platter for him from here.
Ash i think
It really was not cut out too well ! doesnt sit straight.
The guy who fixed it up did not do anything to it but after the Graham went in and it was sat in the 124 i was partial to the overall look and have grown to like it.
The Graham needed a lot of work and so did the tt.
Did u notice that its painted silver? Had to be stripped cause the grey paint was lifting off due to bad oxidation.
Overall it looks good - it was my dad's and i have been using it since the late 60s so its not going anywhere.
The other 124 and arm has seen much less use , but after restoration its the one with worse rumble which i attribute to the E50
One day i will send the E50 to Jim Cambell.

I have to accept that i cant seem to appreciate the alleged sonic virtues of the 103R.
It was especially awful in the Graham cause of tracking issues.
A Nag MP11 sits in the 3012 quite happily now.

The AU111 has had much done to restore it - a saga - cause the previous previous owner had got someone to cut out the 'unnecessary circuits ' like Tone, filters Loudness etc.
It was in a terribly sad state.
I actually sent it to a friend in Hounslow and he has done a sterling job.
Everything works perfectly. It sounds v nice now and the NS1000M s are a nice match tonally i think.

Will check out Frank Zappa.

Thank you Barry and Geoff for the intro into Frank Zappa
Shut up and play yer guitar is awesome - kinda like Jeff Beck
Such a multifaceted eclectic talent.
I found a great bbc doc on him from abt 1993
