Just been raking in my drawers

...for memories:eyebrows: came across all my pocket watches. Used to love these, and guess I still do. Used to wear one every day but as I dont go anywhere now I dont which is a shame. Mostly American and some date back to 1880's; boy, did these guys know something about craftsmanship, and they still work.
Anyone here been a pocket watch collector in the past?

Very true, and to get something like that made now, if you could find anyone who could would cost a bomb. much undervalued as folk dont wear waistcoats now. I like waiscoats lol... Ive got a lovely little Hampden watch too which is relatively rare although the Appleton Tracy is pretty rare

got a nice micro mosaic pill box chain fob somewhere as well. its nice

This American railroads set was made by Hamilton and was a mail order thing done in the 60's and 70's. they up until recently were not selling well but Ive noticed of late that these are doing very well at auction and bucking the trend

I've always likes the idea of a nice waistcoat adorned with a nice pocket watch and chain , ever since I was a young man . Never got around to getting one though :(

Loved watches since I was a kid. If I could afford it I'd have a Seiko Kinetic, Tag Monaco and for those very special suited and booted occasions a vintage Patek Philippe - one day eh ! :)

It sort of has already, Lots of people now don't wear a watch because they have the time on their mobile phone. So you see people taking their phone out of their pocket just to check the time - in exactly the same way as a fob watch user would a hundred years ago. Always makes me laugh.

I do that. Stopped wearing a watch years ago. I don't often need to know the time anyway, but there's a clock on the mobile and one in the car, so a watch has become surplus.

Yes ive done it myself but rather flip out a timepiece. Ive lots of waistcoats many are not suit types so can and are worn casually.you dont close them. In fact you buy them smaller than you need.. Swede and leather styles are best for it as they hold their shape when unbuttoned.

I scrapped the chain last week for a grand...had to be done it had just sat in a drawer for the last hundred years.

I think the watch may go the same way soon. Sad really, but it's worth more melted down I'm told.
