The arm is worth that on it's own these days...

To the buyer and forgive my interference here, but I serviced loads of these in my time and just wanted to pass it on

Check everything for firm tightness - main bearing and tonearm nuts - not straining tight, but, well, firm, if you see what I mean.

The main bearing may need a few drops of EP80 oil as used by Rega. if the inner hub is carefully lifted out, there should be clean oil remaining on the bottom of the spindle, with a tiny dimple as a running mark after more than thirty years of use. be careful not to lose the ball and don't put too much oil in - a few drops is all needed. replace the inner hub, place platter on top and go away and leave it to settle into place for five minutes or so - DON'T push it down.

A new belt every couple of years is mandatory I think, the mat here looks fine, but they can go off and become misshapen and at some point, a check of the bottom motor bearing would be a good idea (mains disconnected of course) as these can either dry out or become clogged up if the wrong oil is used (a call to Rega would be beneficial).

The R200 as fitted to the Planar 3 had selected horizontal bearings (minimal slop which isn't really an issue due to gravity loading), but the bias belt can crumble away. Never fear, as a replacement was found and I think Johnnie at Audio Origami may be able to help you if you need one.

Lastly and sorry if I seem to be lecturing (I have little to do this week so am sitting here typing ), site the deck carefully for best sonics (these fed back worse than the RB arm versions) and remove the lid when playing, leaving the platter running when changing records too (place record on rotating platter than gently tap the label to seat it on the mat properly).

Lovely musical sounding deck when set up right and the arm is a simple classic and better than most of its type! Rega still make their wall bracket and this cleans up the bass superbly!
