Noisy pot

The stepped attenuator on my Tisbury audio pre crackles when changing volume settings. How do I go about sorting this? Can I just spray some contact cleaner at the pot or is it a bit more complex?

Depends on the type Tony.. Some use alps blue and ive seen smt stepped attens too. Try spraying if you can fi!d any holes then drain it. The crackle may come back though. Deoxit is best..the alps can be dismantled cleand and put back together but you may fi!d replacing it is the best option

It's possible there is some DC in the signal, which might cause this.

Its a stepper as opposed to a blue alps, could I get away with automotive contact cleaner?

How do I know if it has DC in the signal?

Its only when changing volume I get the crackles, Its quiet when set at a volume.

If you can see the way to the contacts the its worth go. If theycare hidden then may be pointless
You would need a meter to see if dc is present . More likely to be dirty contact

My TVC does this, but only when music is playing, never when there is none.

Only one source Ali...tissie back in the fray in conjunction with the kel84 monos. Fine match for the 57s....(A wise man once told me statics and valves are a match made in heaven).

If Im across this week Brian will bring the tissie and we gan give it a wee squirt of the majk water.

Im pretty sure its just a bit of oxidisation on the contacts.
