Just got my arm back from J7 at Audio Origami after a Cardas rewire and "fettle"
As always totally satisfied with the quality of the work and support from J7. :respect:
He offers a silver ikeda rewire as well but I decided on the Cardas 33ga copper as I didn't want to risk the sound being too "thin".
Anyway, it sounds like a totally different arm - improved bass extension and control with better dynamics and clarity. He tells me he also reset the head shell collar alignment to get the azimuth perfect.

All done and back within a week of sending it off. :)
Total cost including shipping less than £90 - bargain for the improvement in SQ.
Anyone looking to maximise the potential of their stock tone arm should get in touch with J7 - you won't be disappointed.

Steve,

I have an Ikeda rewire on my SME V and there is no hint of it sounding "thin", my SME 3012 has had a similar treatment and it sounds fantastic. Each tonearm is used in a different system (one valve and one SS) and if anything both systems more "muscular".

That's good to know Andrew - I guess there are just so many potential upgrade variables available it's just not possible to audition before hand and then there's the whole "system dependent" thing.
Anyway , the main purpose of my post was an unashamed plug for Audio Origami

+1 mate! I'm a J7 fanboy, my last six arms have been sent and fettled over the years.

If only there were more J7s around, the hi-fi industry would be in a far better state than it is! :)

Marco.

Jelco sometimes seem to glue the headshell collet very firmly to the armtube. Johnnie could not rewire my SA-750D because he couldn't loosen the collet without damaging the arm tube.
