Tried to bypass the internal sound card but no success. I muted the J river volume control but when I mute the speaker in the task bar the sound do not come through my dac...can anyone help me (step by step) how to disable the internal sound card please

Somewhere in the control panel you will have the ability to point the sound at devices, and if you have ASIO or WASAPI drivers installed then they should also show in the options list.
It's the ASIO or WASAPI stuff that you should be pointing the sound at.

Once selected your media player will take precedence over system sound, so system sounds will not be heard while you're playing music.

Thanks Chris
I am playing through WASAPI and it is selected and showing in J River. But my worry is why the sound is not coming through if i mute the speaker in the task bar..if the driver is bypassing the internal card muting the speaker in the task bar should not have any effect the sound at all...am i right

Is there anything in the JRiver settings that stops the computer from being able to control output level?
I ask as I do not use JRiver.

As Chris says, selecting WASAPI mode in Jriver will grant the player "Exclusive Access" to the soundcard, which will bypass Windows audio.
Its a fair point about Muting the speaker, but Jriver "takes over" the soundcard in WASAPI, so honestly your getting the best sound quality option by doing this.
Another thing to do is to set Jriver volume to "Disabled"?

J River volume control is disabled and also J River is set WASAPI output. I think the problem is in the setting Sound setting in the control panel.

Oh great really appreciate all for your help.
will read through and educate myself.
If JR take over and I am getting the best sound that's all matters. I will have a crack on my system later on and see whether I get the same sound as before...will play Dire Straits sultan of Swing ...the track i know like back of my arm.

Still confused will come back and ask more questions...thanks

Read up on the last link I sent Santosh,
it covers setting windows audio to play nice with Jriver.

Let us know how you get on. :)

I think internal audio devices can be disabled properly in the BIOS so then windows will never see them and then be forced to use the external sound device's drivers for system audio.

That's a different scenario perhaps ... maybe you only wanted to prevent Window's control of any audio device rather than specifically the internal device.

It is common practice to disable the volume control settings in Windows when using an external USB audio device. But some of these USB audio chips support a couple of Windows routines like the volume control. The USB audio chip I use is an example of that. The Windows volume control slider can be used to adjust the audio level from the USB chip.

as an update to this, I got it disabled on my win 8 one. it was the one that I couldnt get it off, but it works now... Must stop using Jriver 21...it is a disaster and I should get my money back... Another of its major flaws is when you rip a disc, then put another one in it will not be budged into rescanning it for metadata and just says it is the last disc you put in....crazy...

thanks Gary.
