Should I try swapping speakers to see if it still happens with the right channel
could do.. take it thats all the sources you have. swap them at the amp (what amp is it)

Try another amp?
if its still same speaker then check any biamps wires and the cable. if not speaker its likely to be the amp, probably an op section

Grant I could swap the monoblocks over and see if there is sound coming out the left channel still or if it moves to the right channel I don't know if the eddies have protection fuses in for the crossovers it could be that if they have that fuse may have blown thing is what could have blown it I haven't got another amp to try at the moment

21-10-2015, 20:42
Swapped the monoblocks around and now the sound does not come out of the left speaker sounds like one of the monoblocks has a fault:scratch:
does that mean its coming out of the other one now Steven? if the sound has moved with the amp then yep, a problem with monoblock. could be a line fuse? if it has any, or a bad connection or component failure.. Just wondering if something got shorted when you moved the firebottle. its usually best not to move things when on in case something comes adrift. Might not be too much

Grant nva monoblocks have no protection fuses I wonder if one of the interconnects has gone down I will try swapping out the interconnects I have between the power and the pre see if this makes a difference

Are you using the Klotz cables Steven because I guarantee these for life against any defect so no problem for me to have a look at them if there's any defects .
double check by trying both sides of the pre as well then just in case it is the pre. If the pre is passive and I suspect it will be you only need to run the bad monoblock. try it with both cables then through the opposite outputs .. the pre will be fine or should be.
It sounds like something has blown if you heard a noise. if you have a back up amp then you can try that too.

if they were short and tight plugs then some can seerate inside. I had one do just that a couple of months ago. it was a sealed plug too so it got chucked. great news

Not sure Steven ,could be a number of things .
As you recently bought a set of Klotz MC5000 interconnects from me I was just making sure there wasn't a problem with them mate .

Pleased it wasn't the amps at fault.
I'm surprised you're not using the cable from you know where though. It is recommended for good reason.

Good job you didn't go DIY by hanging yourself with the very cable that was at fault!
My oldest son succeeded it doing just that. Not a pretty sight, joking aside.

I built a phono stage a while back and was gutted that one channel wasn't working. After a lot of solder joint checking etc. it was a faulty interconnect to blame.
Glad you've sorted out your issues!

So the thread has no direct relevance to the Edingdale speakers it's titled after
It might as well be titled "arse biscuits"!
"Arse Biscuits" a phrase I use, but have no idea where it came from or whether I made it up. Any clues?

'Twas said speaker that was not putting out sound so I thus used the name of the said speaker to start the thread then it developed into finding out it was the interconnect causing it :ner:

Steven,
For the record there is only one d in Edingdale and glad the issue you had was nothing to do with the speakers which I sell and make.
I do wish you would change the title of this thread as the fault you were experiencing has nothing to do with the speakers and casts some doubt about the design. It gives out the wrong vibes.
In all the Edingdale speakers I have sold I have only had one issue with drivers and that was down to the owners grandchild poking a knitting needle in one the drivers punching a hole. That was solved with a replacement driver.
Marco/Moderators
can you please arrange for the title of this thread to changed to a more suitable title reflecting the fault being a interconnect cable and nothing at all to do with a fault of the Edingdale speakers.

Colin I will change the title of the thread I have said on numerous occasions your speakers are fantastic I am so chuffed with your speakers that I will be making an appearance at nebo6 with them where I'm sure they will blow everyone away ps Colin are you coming to nebo6 the synergy I am now getting with the eddies and my amps is fantastic I am hearing things in my music which I've never heard before the detail is incredible they have to be best speakers for the money period I would say they could put to shame many a hi end speaker costing thousands
Steven,
Just wait till you hear the speakers fed by some 300B Set valve luvliness...
Topsy (and Scott's) speakers are second to none.
Love mine.

It was a bit like blaming Vauxhall because your car had stopped working because it had run out of fuel. Inappropriate.
Now funnily enough I was round at Colin's earlier today, and there was an identical situation occurred - we had sound coming out of the right hand channel, but nothing from the left.
It never crossed my mind or Colin's that the speaker was the problem, so the first thing to happen was Colin dug around the back of the amp and reversed the channels to see if the problem moved or remained the same. As it happens both channels worked, so they needed putting back the right way round, and this time all was as it should be. The problem was put down to being a plug not pushed properly home. And no need for a thread titled "Arse Biscuits" :D
 give the man a break. He didnt know what was to blame did he.

Steven, Thanks for the change of title to this thread, makes a lot more sense and describes the problem you had. As stated before very glad you got this sorted fairly quickly and eased your anxiety that clearly you were experiencing. 99 times out of a 100 if one looses sound on one channel it is down to either a bad connection or source fault and if using a valve amp one tube has gone down. It rarely is the speakers, but it can be. And 9 times out of ten it's interconnects. At least that is my experience.
Thank you for the kind words regards my (and Scotts) speakers and hope they give you many a year continued enjoyment.
Not sure I can make it to the NEBO6 meet, but I'll see if I can persuade Stratmangler to accompany me if Manchester City are not playing at home that day. AA travel router says its around 2½ hours so not as long a journey as I first thought. Any way if I do make it, (which I will confirm on the thread) I'll bring along my new prototype Norge standmount speakers and perhaps my active TVC preamp to throw in the pre shootout mix.
Steven,
if ever you do have a problem with the speakers then you know where we are and we'll one way or the other get them sorted for you.
Regards
Colin
