Sitting at the minute listening to the aftermath of One Direction's last minute cancelation of their concert last night in Belfast. Now I am no fan of One Direction and it's easy to snear at the crazy devotion their fans have for them, but considering the cost of the tickets £70 upwards, with VIP tickets costing £160 these fans paid a small fortune to see them.
At 5 past 9 the venue manager stepped out on stage to announce the gig was off, because Liam was ill, from what's being said it seems this gig was pulled long before this time. Stephen Nolan was told at 5 45 that an interview he was to conduct with one member was off because they were Ill, interestingly not Liam. This seems odd :scratch:
Now I can't help but feel that One Direction don't give a damn about their fans, why, because not one of them had the decency, or balls to step on stage and announce this. One member of the audience who was taken ill was treated behind the curtain, was their equipment set up to perform ? Not according to this person, the stage was empty of gear. This tells me One Direction never set up to play in the first place.
Frankly the professional thing to have done would be to go on stage and say Liam is ill, would you like us to perform, won't be as good but we appreciate the expense and effort you have gone to and the rest of us would like to play for you, and reschedule a full line up gig as soon as we can. They didn't do that, happy to take fans money and not step up to the mark.
Now if more than one member was ill, fair enough but still this should have been announced by the band not the venue manager, and certainly not minutes before curtain up. Lots of questions need answered.
I recall years ago at a gig the bands equipment failed, the heat and humidity in the venue caused the equipment to overheat. Did they cancel, walk off? Nope, they went acoustic till their gear worked fully again. That is being professional and giving a damn.
I feel for the fans, awful thing to have happened.
