Last year it was a kind of "Bring & Buy" event, where generous Show-goers brought along and donated nice things for other folks to buy.

I think it will be nice to do that again.
So if folks have some decent, sellable gear / items they would like to start putting aside to bring along and donate for this event that would be abfab.

I'm giving it a whirl this year as exhibitor, after years of going as a (slavering) punter.
I'll be in the Gun Room if any AOS' ers would like to pop in and say hi and listen to my kit.
Taking the big Ureis, and the JVC amps, also prototype phono stage by my friend Rob Baines who is Russell Technologies. Be playing vinyl via a Techie and hi res via a Yamaha DVD S-2700.

However, I get the space thing, but if you could prioritise space for your T/T over, say, your digital source, then that would be fun. If you did that, I'd even bring a stack of superb sounding recordings on vinyl (which you could borrow) to play to and wow your audience! ;)

I understand and appreciate the reasons for doing that, but I may now have to reconsider attending the show, as I very much like to come and go as I please, not having to be at the beck and call of buses. Also, I don't like the idea of leaving my car, in terms of security, miles away from the hotel, in an area where I don't know how safe it is.

I shall have to give this due some consideration! Thought other folks should also know, who might not have seen this.

Thank goodness I happened to read the thread on pfm, as otherwise I may well just have turned up on the day, to buy a ticket at the door, and found out I couldn't park my car at the hotel, the same as I've done every other year (courteously, as always, and causing no obstruction to anyone, by arriving early)....

Now *that* would've seriously f*cked me off! :doh: Not everyone attending Scalford reads Wigwam or pfm..... This new arrangement should've been publicised more widely on ALL the main forums, which includes here.

Oh, and what happens on the day if it's pishing down with rain? Folks all getting soaked, standing in the cold and rain, waiting for buses to arrive? I predict a NIGHTMARE in the waiting!!

Well, I'll refrain from commenting too much on the latter, as most of that will be down to the fault of the drivers! Plus, anyone with any sense gets to these shows EARLY, so you can find a proper parking space, which a) doesn't inconvenience anyone else, and b) isn't likely to get you trapped.

I've attended every Scalford show since its inception, either as an exhibitor or a visitor, and never had any issues with parking, simply because I've applied some courtesy and common sense.

However, the biggest concern for me, with the Park & Ride scheme, is ensuring security for my car, which without meaning to 'brag', is not the type you just abandon anywhere, without giving it some thought. In that respect, it's a different ball game, having it near at hand, parked in the secluded private grounds of a hotel, or sat somewhere on a public street (or whatever), miles away...

I suspect the latter will be a 'bridge too far', way too much palaver, and most likely result in my non-attendance (and I doubt that I'll be alone on that one). Hey-ho, we'll find something else to do that weekend! :)

If it all runs like clockwork, and the feedback from drivers attending this year is good, then I'll reconsider things for next year, but I'm not willing to be one of this year's Park & Ride 'guinea pigs'.

I don't really see what other option the show organisers have. The first year the show was on you could park in the hotel car park reasonably easily but now the popularity of the show has extended to the point where the car park is rammed the night before (mostly by people arriving early to set up their rooms) and I can see why the locals aren't keen on the mile of grass verge parking that has been the norm in the last couple of years (on the road outside the hotel). The hotel can hardly make their parking any larger and short of moving to another venue there seems little other choice. One isn't obliged to Park ones car is a 'dodgy area' (though Melton Mowbray hasn't struck me as particularly 'dodgy'), you can park where you like and just catch one of the free buses to the show - surely this isn't any different than leaving ones car to go shopping?

Sorry, mate... But you can understand my concerns.

In fact, since you mention taxis, if I were to go now, that might be how I also do it. I'd need to look at the train services to Melton, from Wrexham (see what that's like), and if not too much of ball-ache, simply get a taxi from Melton station to the hotel (and back afterwards).

Hotel plus train will come to more than a taxi or I would do that. Plus the taxi a lot more convenient and will drop us off and collect us right from the door of the hotel. I can get a very good deal on a taxi as well (will be the same driver who takes me to work every day). I could arrange to have him go out to get you first, then pick me up on the way to Scalford. Then on the way back he can drop me off and then you. I'll get a price on Tuesday.

For me it's a Sunday-only shot: get there 'early doors' (to avoid queues, and thus a chance to go around the rooms, before they become too crowded), and then shooting off and getting back home at a decent hour! :cool:

The problem I foresee with changing the venue is that A/ the current venue is really rather charming, B/ the rooms actually sound pretty good and there is a broad ranges of sizes all the way to very large, C/ the majority of those attending now think of the show as being in Melton Mowbray and D/ the kind of hotels that have sufficient parking for this show (ie significantly more than actually needed for it just as a hotel) are vast featureless lumps or close to other parking (expensive multi-storey - Bristol show or airport - Manchester).

Yeah I know where you're coming from, and agree.

However, as they say: if you don't seek, you don't find, and if you're sufficiently motivated, and look hard enough, there must be something suitable out there. I'm sure that the organisers must have realised that the show has, quite simply, outgrown the venue - and IMHO, introducing a P&R scheme is not the answer, certainly in the long term. Inevitably, the inconvenience is going to put a lot of people off.

Frankly, I'd rather attend the show at a "vast featureless lump", where I can park my car conveniently outside, and not have to shlep around the place (potentially in the cold and rain) waiting for buses to get there, than the alternative, *as long as* the rooms were good sounding (for hi-fi purposes), the layout easily negotiated - and of course the venue itself within an acceptable driving distance. The rest I really don't care about.

I've got better ways of 'enjoying myself', on a day off, than traipsing around catching buses, especially (as I usually do, and indeed is one of my main reasons for attending the show in the first place), end up buying a pile of records from one of the stalls, which I certainly don't want to be dragging around with me, for the duration of the show.

I want to buy them, and then bung 'em in the car, safely out of the way (and so the latter needs to be within easy reach), leaving myself unencumbered by any baggage [which I might also end up leaving somewhere], and thus free to enjoy myself.

The reality is, I'm unlikely to go again (unless the taxi thing works out well with Macca, which I'm sure it will), as long as the P&R remains in place. Anyway, let's see what happens after this show, and then take it from there :cool:

Yeah, that's potentially 10-15mins of standing outside in the pissing rain in Melton (or longer if there are delays), waiting for a bus! Anyway, I've said my piece on this. I truly hope things do go well for both the show and the organisers, in terms of the P&R arrangements, but I have my doubts.

Nah, your man will be dropping us off at the hotel. As long as we're not parking, there should be no issues.

Besides, apparently they'll be taking car registrations at the entry to the hotel and not allowing anyone to park, who isn't exhibiting, in which case it won't affect us, as your driver will be pissing off until coming back to get us later.

Btw, we *need* to be there early, at the very latest, 9.45am :)

If you are just picking up or dropping off you would think that would be okay but how do they know when they let you in that you won't just park up and go in? So I suspect that might be an issue.
