photo's of my sysetem, the bits you can't see are a tacima mains conditioner, diy interconnects, russ andrews mains lead, ixos optical lead and an iphone running remote. i also use an ibook to screen share with the mac mini when importing to itunes etc. i don't use the cd player on the classik at all, however i have opened it up and damped every possible surface with deadmat, which improved the amp no end.

the oak veneered speaker was my first attempt and only has the 8" full range driver, the system stand is a stands unique tower. i hope this works!

Steve, very nice system there. I am a fan of oak veneer too! plus I used to have a Mac Mini (not for audio) until it blew up...

Anyway it looks like you have a nice neat system there.

Oh, forgot to mention I am also a fan of full range drivers too!

well, i have to say that these really are the best speakers i've ever owned, and i've had tannoy, kef, b&w, etc etc, when i first considered building my own i looked at some of the reviews for this model and they were favourably compared to speakers at $50,000!!! which at the time was about £35,000.

i reckoned that if 90% of that was b.s. then i'd still have a pair of speakers performing at about £3,500 which even if i had the readies swmbo wouldn't wear it.

i've had a few fellow hifi nuts round and all are very complimentary about the sound they produce, some have been inspired to get stuck in themselves. i personally won't ever buy commercial speakers again, not now i know what's possible via the diy route.

all i need now is a diy valve amp, a benchmark dac or possibly a diy copper one i've seen on the site, and amarra.

thanks
steve

p.s
the grey external cd drive you can see is yamaha crw f1 which does the amqr disc burning, for the car etc. produces far superior sounding cd's than the mac.

Same here. They look nice too.
If you ever find yourself near Chester i'd really like to hear them sometime.:).

Hi Steve,

jonboy,
the drive units are audio nirvana 12" full range firing forward, with 8" full range firing up
they are wired using maplins 79p a mtr speaker cable, and the cabinets have deadmat behind the 12" and on the bottom, with damping wool on the backs and sides. the front port is 5" diameter and the paint is a custom mix that the sprayer made up to be a red wine type of colour, its also slightly pearlescent and changes colour at night or in low light when it looks like wet gloss black.
if you buy the drive units from commonsenseaudio.com you get the plans free.
i went for paint because from experience with mdf i know its difficult to veneer the edges and have them look nice.

regards
steve

May I direct you to Steve's advert for his AoS amp below. I've heard this - it is phenomenal and I think would match your speakers perfectly :)

A mate of mine also made the copper DAC you're talking about.
