View Full Version : Service/repair on Tellurium Q Claymore amp

Hi,

I think my amp is in need of a service/repair the CD input is flaky ( cuts in and out on one channel ), and now I've discovered the headphone socket only works on 1 channel :steam::steam::steam::steam:

Anyone know who services these? I am based in Fife, Scotland if that helps.

I've removed it from sale in the meantime :(

The designer, Colin Wonfor, is a regular contributor here on AOS... If he doesn't do repairs (I've no idea) then I can also help you.

yeah I've seen him on but not sure if he does repairs etc, will see what comes up, I'll keep you in mind and thanks for your offer.

Mike I do fix my own designs so PM me please.
And I doubt if Tellurium Q have the skills so do not bother with them just a waste of space and effort. And Geoff will want to charge you a small fortune so greedy.

Hi,

Colin has very kindly offered his services, but is there anyone closer to me to save postage as it cost £44 to have it delivered to me when I bought it and if I send it for repair it will be twice that :(

My guess based on experience with other amps (never had a failure with a Wonfor product) is that DHL will charge inc (say) £500 insurance about £25 to send and similar to collect.

Hi,

Problem solved, I sent it off to Colin Wonfor ( he designed it and his name is printed in the board ) and after spending 45 minutes removing the cover ( it was stuck by some sort of sticky stuff ) he found that the underside of the cover had been covered in Dynamat sound proofing which is made up of a very sticky tar like substance on one side and a metal surface in the other, he found that the sticky side has glued the cover in place and the metal surface was impinging on the phono and cd connections as well as the bolt holding the transformer in place.

So after 3 hours removing the gunk all was good, amp now running better than ever he says.

So it's on it's way back, can't wait.

Just goes to show that not all problems are major and that certain mods just don't work!

Dynamat coating must have been done by a previous owner.

And just for interest this amp was Colin's own amp when it was new.

Good to hear. Dynamat stuff.i know the stuff with silver back as i use it in speakers...its designed fo car panels... But in a hot environment like an amp its gonna melt and move.

Yeah, bloody stuff, took him 3 hours, luckily it wasn't me who put it on.

It's was delivered about 2 hours ago but my wife didn't answer the f'in door so I thought I'd have to go and collect it at the depot tomorrow :steam:

Now I can imagine what she'd have said if I'd done the same with a 'Next' delivery....... however.........



I have to give a big :wow: to my posties ( is that plural for postie ? ), I had a quick run out in the car to the shop and bumped into the postie who was shadowing my usual one and I asked her if she had a parcel for me that couldn't be delivered and she said she wasn't sure as she had been doing one area while her colleague did another.

Lo and behold they came back a few minutes ago and dropped it off as they ended their round.

It's all hooked up and sounding great :guitar::fingers:

So thanks to my friendly neighbourhood posties, I've now let the wife out of the cupboard under the stairs :D

no need for tracking now :eyebrows:

Can't get near it right now as my wife ( you know the one in the cupboard ) is on the phone doing an interview so only had a quick listen for a few mins. I forgot to email you to let you know it had arrived, I'm busy browsing cases for a potential power amp build ;)

Nip along to Raytheon and look in the skip I got some good bits, some are in Dave's on chew Green Goddess SECA amp. Work well.

will do its about 5 mins from me, pity my daughter's boyfriend doesn't work at Fifefab anymore as that would have been ideal and might have managed a wee sideline lol.
