TelluriumQ Black Diamond Stereo interconnects vs Chord Indigo Plus interconnects

I have recently been given the opportunity to home demo a pair of 1m TelluriumQ Black Diamond interconnects for a couple of weeks. To put this review in context, they were to replace a pair of 1m Chord Indigo Plus interconnects between my Cyrus Pre2 DAC Qx with the PSX-R2 and my pair of Cyrus MonoX300 Signatures power amps.

My first impression was that these were very good cables with bass to die for, the Indigo's have always been slightly lacking in this area. However on increased listening I was finding that I was not enjoying my music as I had previously and after a few days I understood why. The mid range was thinner and the high end was emphasising the treble too much, making the sound thin and less dynamic than the Indigo's.

The cables have now been returned to the dealer and I am left disappointed with these highly regarded cables. At the £890.00 price point I'm also surprised that the finish of the cables that use expensive WBT RCA type plugs with cheap basic plastic sleeves which are prone to crack if subject to a little over-enthusiastic tightening.

Not surprised Clive by you finding the TQ highlighting some areas over others.

Have tried a few different TQ cables in my time, both Interconnect and speaker wires I can say they are probably not what you would call neutral cables...
Klotz 5000/MS Audio rca's allowed my system to stretch its legs more than a £500 cable, so price (imo) isn't and indicator of ultimate quality.

And on a personal note, I wouldn't touch anything by TQ now.

I was never happy with TQ when they stuck on an extra fiver per mono metre if you only bought a 2 metre pair of speaker cables.

Both forms are high-profit cables for a dealer - just so's you know..

if you want a good cable that works well with anything, then get a Klotz set from Brian here. They're about as smooth and grain-free as you'll probably ever need and for £50 made up with MS plugs, there's absolutely nothing to complain about.

Another interesting point. I phoned TQ to ask the price for 0.5m Black Diamond stereo interconnects and was told that the price was the same as the 1m cables. I know a lot of the cost is in the plugs and making up but charging the same for 0.5m & 1m is nothing short of rip-off. If TQ sold 10 Pairs of 0.5m of cable, they would gain 5m of cable free and gratis. I'm glad I didn't like the cable in the end.

The klotz stuff has out performed all the expensive stuff Ive heard(not in my system as I cant afford it) I have tried klotz and liked it. I also have a set of Brians fancier leads and they are keepers. as for speaker cables Ive made my own recently and they out perform ones that cost up to £100 a set, so it shows what can be achieved at lower costs as I'm sure your aware ...as for TQ, I'd say they're stuff is ridiculous price no matter how fancy the plugs and as you have pointed out to charge the same for a product half the size implies that the cable, to them, is pretty much worthless.

I swapped my TQ Black speaker cable over a year ago for some Van Damme 6mm Blue.

Haven't missed it at all. And the Blue was approx a quarter of the price.
