Why do they need to be matched?

The way the amplifier is designed and bias adjustment Cary say they must be a matched pair
Presume they must know as they designed it :)

Ok, Only reason I asked is that a pair of 300b's would normally be for a SET, one per channel, in which case matching is not that big a deal. if its a Dual SET or a push pull, then yep matching matters, but normally you would not be looking for a single pair.

Assuming you are after a second hand pair (otherwise you would just buy a pair from a supplier), unless the seller can measure them before sale, its hard to know if they are still matched, as once used they will drift at different speeds.

Yes it is for a SET CAD-300SEI INTEGRATED AMPLIFIER.
This is a manual bias version but not individual for each channel, just one adjustment for both which is why i'm assuming the manufacturer has said they must be a matched pair.
