Hi There

This is Steve saying hello from Hong Kong. Having relocated here from UK since 2012. I have now get to a stage that l am finally settling down with my system that l am very happy with.

I have been thro 6 pairs of speakers, 8 amps and a 4 dacs since l've been here. Anyway, my current amp is Line Magnetic 219a using as power amp (a hefty 135lb lump) driving a pair of Talon Raven c(another 135lbs each weighted) with a beefed up Grounded Grid preamp, Acousticbuoy 2488 dac with a modded jkenny hiface using CAS as source primarily.

I have recently purchased a few upgrade items for the CAS including Regen from Uptone Audio, jitterbug together with a Ciunas dac which should be here in 2 weeks time. But l am still a little bit suspicious whether they can make further improvment to the SQ. Will wait and see.

Anyway, if anyone fancy a hifi shops tour while you are here on business or holiday do give me a shout.

Lovely, Steve!

When I think of Hong Kong, I think of big systems in small rooms ... huge Tannoys and WE horns crammed into cupboards :) Have you visited any of the local audiophiles' systems? Are they really all like that?

What an amplifier! Those speakers look like they could do some serious damage, too.

Never been to HK but I guess it is the worlds biggest sweet shop for the audio enthusiast. :)

Hi Peter

You mean like this one? As a matter of fact there are a lot of JBL and Tannoys enthusiasts here. However, people tends to buy gears that holds their values in the long run. So may be something like Cello, Mark Levison, accuphase, Marantz 7's etc.

There are certainly more bargains to be had in UK than in Hong Kong probably due to the higher initial retail prices. I used to spend quite a lot of time in one building may be twenty storeys or so high starting from the top and worked my way down. They have a lot of interesting gear ranging from exotic Japanese turntables to massive speakers etc. But you will never find any bargains there due to the high rent for these premises nowadays.

Like l said before, if you are over here in this part of the world, do give me shout.

Yes, the amp is a beast. I use it as a heater in Winter too. The Talon are quite special too, they can go down to 19hz. I was told there are only 3 pairs in HK.

Hi Stephen

Nice to hear from you again. :)

Looks like a really fine system you have there. It's changed a bit since I visited you in the UK!
