Just sent the last 2 hours trying to get my Squeezebox Touch to be 'found' to no avail, so called their support team, who informed me that their servers are down!
Anyone else have this frustrating situation?
You get this sorted Craig?
first order of business is always a complete network reset...
(and yes...it's a case of switching everything off and back on again :))
!
Anyone else have this frustrating situation?
No, because I don't mix computers and music.
Computers are an almost constant pain in the ass and music is supposed to be fun.
Sorry, but you did ask :)

Dinosaur! :ner:
My Squeezeboxes here don't give me any trouble at all - the setup is rock solid and dependable.
If computers are an almost constant pain in the ass to you you're doing summat wrong

That's the problem with having the device log into a remote server Craig, and the reason I run mine on a local server with appropriate plugins for remote services.

You are an I.T gadgee though so you have it set up properly and if you do get a problem it is easy for you to fix. I used to have an I.T man for that but he became too rich to hang around with me anymore :(

Nientos problemos here with the RPi and my NAS. Hasn't lost a beat since I got it 6 months ago! You worry too much and have no sense of adventure ;)

I've had no formal IT training.
I didn't own a computer until the back end of 2001, although I did have access to works laptops.
My introduction to computing was ordeal by fire - I went on a course at Siemens about a telephone system, and I had to learn how to program the damned thing using a computer.
Just about everything I know about IT and networking I've taught myself, usually by trial and error, and making lots of mistakes along the way.
I'm a telecoms person that has adapted as telephone systems and IT have converged. I've had to adapt.
My laptop is as important a tool to me as my wire cutters and my bifurcation tool.
The way things have turned around I actually spend more of my time cabling than anything else, which is ironic.
When I started doing telecoms work all those years ago everybody told me that everything would soon be wireless and cabling would be a thing of the past. I'm still waiting for it to be so.

You had better sell your CD Player then. :)
You had better sell your CD Player then. :)
At least the CD player does not bombard you with stupid error messages about TCP sockets and suchlike. I get a great one at work sometimes telling me that the 'trust relationship' between blah and blah-blah has broken down. WTF is that supposed to be all about? If my computer is having personal isues it needs to see a counsellor, I don't want to bleeding know about it.
I have had IT training, I'm a trained programmer and I have an HNC (from decades ago)but I can't be arsed to learn these modern operating systems, they are pointlessly over-complicated and tedious to use.

ok.. ok .. keep your allens on. lol
When these things 'do' go wrong they are as flaky as a flaky thing eating a flake. But they are pretty stable. I've only had one issue with mine and I never found out why it did what it did... so I can see where your coming from.
What really needs to happen is for someone to take the setup and write some more bombproof software that 'IS' simply plug and play. This would take some effort for it to work everytime through any network.
Personally, although the software, as in Moode, Volumio n the likes are good, for me they are nothing like good enough.
I still play cd's simply because my CD player is something I've loved since growing up in the 1980's. The sound is great but when it comes to detail retrieval the RPi wins hands down.

Maybe if you were arsed about it you'd have an easier ride.
From the scant information you've provided I found this using Google https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/162797 and it's first in the list.
Does your workplace have an IT manager? If so, it's just the sort of thing they should be attending to.
If your workplace doesn't have an IT manager then it requires someone to get to the bottom of the problem and sort it out :)

Lol... What are you like? :D
Do you really think if it was *actually* as bad as that, I'd put up with it?

I think your head would explode if it was "as bad as that" :D
Yours works, and yes you had to learn a little bit to run it, but now it's not a problem, and it's reliable.

Yup... it's not worth the worry. It would have been sold ages ago if it caused any problems... I hate stuff that go wrong as much as anyone else.
I'm very, very happy with mine... in fact, it's really bloody excellent. Currently got 'The Wall' on and I'm freaking pinned to... lol The Wall.
Improvements could be to replace the bog standard PSU but... lol I'm stunned at how this liccul fing is.
Think moode is close to idiot proof. No linux is needed and no keyboard etc. It all connects up pretty seamlessly especially with a sabre dac. Either a powered hdd or a hub and non powered hdd and its up and wirking in a few mimutes. Worst scenario is the requirement to reimage a card which is , after youve done it, pretty easy and quick. Although my cd player is pretty decent at moment with the val e buffer and glass lead i rarly use it...its Pi Pi PI all the way:D
I think your head would explode if it was "as bad as that" :D
Indeed!
In reality, once set up, the RPi stays powered up 24/7 and performs flawlessly. The IP addresses and pages for Volumio and Moode are saved onto the desktop on my Mac (which is always with me at home for posting on here), so once my hi-fi system is switched on, I can access the music stored on my NAS in seconds - and it just plays music and does what it says on the tin, with zero headache.
No dropouts, no errors, no hassle - just faff-free, reliable, glorious sounding music at your fingertips! :exactly:
However, vinyl will always remain as my No1 music source, especially since getting this new wall shelf, for the Techy, which has moved things on considerably. Quite simply, if you've got the space and your walls are solid, there is NO better place to put a turntable than on a good wall shelf :)
The beauty though, is in having access to music on a variety of different formats, which is why the most serious music lovers don't just have one source component in their systems, but several.
Marco.
....after saying that mine was out this morning ;) ...to be fair it was the broadbands fault as it dropped out last night. When that happens the pi always needs to be restarted. A time consumi!g act of switching off and switching on again.:eyebrows:
Nightmare, mate. Touch wood, I don't get that either, as my Internet connection is rock solid. I've not been off-line, due to connection problems, for years! :)
Who's your ISP?
Marco.
Plusnet fibre. It often happens in the late evening. Its only for 10 seconds but enough to be annoying. No idea why but its probably the switchboard mucking about with connections and bandwidths. Its nice n fast mostly though considering i am at the end of the line..old system was max 3mb and often slower now its between 25 and 30mb so streaming movies in hd is a doddle

Sorted ta Gaz!
Not quite as simple as rebooting though, as I said, Logitech told me their server was down, so I had to wait.

Like a lot of folk here Chris, I'm not as clever as you with things like that!

Firstly I would say that FBAis the least rewarding source I have on the domestic system, but of course I use it every day on the edit suite, where it's all .Wavs which are, IMO, rubbish compared to a god analogue source. Having bought the Pi for a fe squids and routed it through my DAC, I found it a total faff to opererate compared to my MacMini running Audivarna through the same DAC.
Gentlemen, do not underestimate the power of basic IT literacy when it comes to computer audio. :D
You will not convince my dad for example, who can build and wire HF, VHF, UHF etc. radio transmitters no problem (retired Royal Signals), but get him near a phone or PC and you're screwed. :D :D
...admittedly he does use an iPod with a dock, but that's as far as it goes.
