View Full Version : Wanted: MM Phone stage
Hi guys, I'm looking for a decent cheap MM phono stage for my new (to me) Technics SL-7 TT, just looking for something reasonable to suit the cart on the Technics which is a Technics EPC-P202 MM.
Looking to spend about £60-ish inc postage but would condsider spending a bit more, not a deal breaker but would prefer black.
My amp is a Pulse SRA-160USB integrated.
Thanks
Tony
I would be interested in a Hagerman bugle 2 MM stage or a Schit (sp) Mani phono stage if anyone is thinking about moving any of those two on?
Thanks
Tony

Erm -- this is going to sound totally stupid -- but I wanted a decent phonostage for my 2nd system recently, and for reasons I cannot quite recall * (no, no alcoholic beverages were involved) I bought a Behringer PP400 mm 'stage to try out. Brand new a bit over £20 inc del.
It's extremely good. I use it with a stepup device with my Goldring Eroica mc cartridge - quite a classy cart.
Just send the men in white coats with a strait-jacket to my Gloucestershire residence. :)
* Not sure, but I think something put me on to the Amazon reviews .... http://www.amazon.co.uk/Behringer-PP400-Microphono-Compact-Preamp/dp/B000H2BC4E

Not all cheap phono stages are rubbish Jerry. Just most of them! :)
Seriously. Looks like you got one of the good ones. The Cambridge Audio 640P and Rotel RQ-970 impress me for the money they can be picked up for used. Obviously not the last word, but they do little wrong and are musical. I found them better than the NAD PP1 and PP2. Some on here have tried the Little Bear units from Hong Kong and been surprised at what they can do for peanuts money.
The Bellari VP129 valve job is worth tracking down for a few quid more. It's pretty damn good. Better than the much costlier ProJect TubeBox SE.

Have you looked at the TC-750LC on my website Tony? It is well spoken of on the internet and well inside your price point.

Thanks Stan, I wasn't aware that you had a PS but I'll keep it in mind if I don't decide to keep the MF phono stage:thumbsup:
