No, it's just snagging on the metal spool that is not perfectly flat.

Think the tape is rubbing against the upper tape spool surface which is not perfectly flat.

Also the M20 shown in your YT clip is different to this M20:

Confused? I am.

Lovely machines these.

Regarding the price one of these in average condition would set you back at least £3000 in the UK now.

This one appears to be pristine and consequently a highly useable master recorder / archive transfer machine in the right hands.

These machines are getting rare now and in this kind of condition makes it quite a catch even at his BIN price.

The price of professional machines will continue to rise with the apparent surge in interest for supply of tape recordings. Quite how long this trend will persist and to what levels is a hard guess.

I have an M15A and an M10 with Neuman electronics and two playback heads that was used with a cutting lathe. It has a monitoring head and a tape loop before the replay head so that the cutter speed can be adjusted to vary groove spacing.

I think the difference between those 2 M20s is that one is set-up for oxide in and one for oxide out. The tape on the first one is twisted because it's been spooled oxide in but is being played on an oxide out setup.

I'm trying to get the M15A running but not having much success in getting a response from Hilpert who seem to be the only source of parts.

The M10 is a project for another day - maybe even for someone else.
