Spotify via Pi

Morning all,

So thanks to the sound advice from everyone I am now up and running with a Pi set up. I have a question however that perhaps someone has an answer to. I'm using Runeaudio for playback. Playback is great with my USB drive stored FLAC files. Spotify is OK but its managed via a plug in embedded in Runeaudio. So it seems I am missing lots of the functions of Spotify such as searching within it etc. Is it possible to get Spotify running as a standalone program on the Pi? I'm controlling everything on my wife's Ipad 3rd Generation.

I have not come across a standalone spotify program for the pi. I use the ipad spotify app with moode's built in airplay feature to send audio to my hifi via my pi, perhaps that would be more suited to your needs? Info on moode here http://moodeaudio.org/

Hi,

It can be done using Ickstream ( no idea if Spotify is fully featured via that mind you). I think I used it via Logitech Media Server and piCoreplayer.

But I now just use MoOde and Airplay for Spotify, but being a Tidal subscriber I don't use Spotify much anyway.

I've not tried it, and it would be quite complex, but I think you could get the full spotify client working on a pi, it would however mean that you would need to find one of the older 'soft float' compiled versions of Rasbian and then use the official linux client on that (as it's ubuntu/debian compatible) it would be something of a chore though and would likely see you also having to play some complicated tricks to get your audio drivers working on an older OS version.

Good geek project and a great way to learn some relatively serious linux chops but not straightforward and not guaranteed to work.

Thanks for the advice guys. I have been getting to know Runeaudio a little over the last few days and i think will just live with it for the moment and enjoy it. I'll think about changing/tweeking it when there is more time to spare.
