Has anyone seen one like this before? Made by Garrard?

Maybe I've missed a trick here but hey...lol - looks pretty cool!

Would it have had an IEC socket back in the days of the 301? Also that box looks like a modern chinese one.

Just looked at the ebay ad - definitely Chinese, look at the voltage display panel on the top. I'm not saying that it does not do a good job, probably does - but that's not an original Garrard 301 PSU.

Not sure that matters, as long as it sounds good! ;)

Even if it is made in China, I agree with Jo and think it looks fab :)

The same thing is here from the Classic Turntable Company - http://www.classichifi-shop.co.uk/products-page/accessories/classic-301-power-supply-unit-psu and I always thought that it was their own product.

Pricey for what it is. DIY equivalent: http://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?14850-Garrard-301-restoration-project&p=605477#post605477

Are they allowed to use the Garrard trademark and Garrard switches etc?

Does look very well done though!

It should be in wrinkle finish, and the voltmeter should be analogue. Apart from that I quite like it.
Those voltmeters are £2-£3 on ebay; I have a couple on my variacs and they work well. But they ain't retro!

Scott is correct the trademark owners of Garrard are Loricraft Audio, wheni worked with them a lot of my time was spent threatening people over things like this.

China is a difficult place to enforce copyrights though. Probably why they are chancing their arm, unless theyve done an unlikely deal.

See my new thread on a new product I discovered last night.

I hear you, Andrew. And for maximum SSPV too! - Excellent find.

The Garrard one does look the business although the price is bonkers and the look of it is (most likely) what your paying for. It would be interesting to know what's inside the Garrard unit.

I'm still looking in to a PSU for my Thorens but just don't know if the plunge would be worth it. I'm having thoughts of buying a 301 as a second TT but the reconditioned ones are lots of money. Superb for sure, but too much for me at the moment.

Joe,

a lot of the work can be done by yourself when reconditioning a 301 and then it can be sent to martin bastin or NWA. You should into a Nigel's Speed Controller over on lencoheaven.

I have the board and engraved badge for one. I must actually DO something with it! And the GL75.

I've just built a Nigel Speed Controller for my Garrard grease bearing 301 and the difference in performance is astounding. If you have one to build I'd suggest you delay no longer.

I'm waiting on machining the front panel, but I'm using it anyway.

Another NSC user here in my case with a 401, the ability to change speed at a flick of switch is great but knowing the speed once set is good for ages rather than the gentle drift of speed I would get before with my deck all make the NSC well worth building.

Not to mention the ability to get rid of the vibration from the speed control disc and lower the voltage to the motor all improved the sound

I'm getting a NSC made up, so can't wait. I've plonked my 301 into my PS Audio P10 and I can verify that a nice clean power supply works wonders as well.
