SRA or stylus rake angle

Ive got one of those or similar. Build quality is not great but they are cheap after all. Work well and you can get some good pics. Not really got to grips with the bundled software though. Youll enjoy playing with it of a night and watch it fall off in your hands:eyebrows:

I've had two USB microscopes over the last few years. Maybe they've improved, but the resolution on mine is poor. I don't get a clear stylus close up. They're very fiddly to use. I may pay a bit more and get a higher spec one. You have to check the software they come with. Some don't support Windows 8/8.1/10 and you'll never track down the right drivers.

Those stands that articulate by two ball ends in a grip are a pain. They come loose as you move the thing around.

not bad,the one ive bought comes with measuring software so you can approximate stylus angle,although to be honest im getting good results with a piece of card and some lines drawn on for tonearm tube aligning .

Im too dumb to understand the software. It came with a cal ruler and disc but its all chinglish to me.

Yeah. That's about the resolution I get. It's not great.

I had far better results using a largish Bresser microscope with a USB eyepiece adaptor. Sold that though. It only supported up to Windows XP.

initial thoughts though are very good for £12.

well over the weekend ive been playing with the usb microscope and here are some of the photos,not bad i reckon.

i found it time consuming getting the scope set up and at the right angle and parallel to the cartridge and edge of the cd,you have to get used to very small changes have a huge effect on the screen.
here's the final one with measurements,the tonearm was set level nad by my maths the sra is approx 95.24 degrees. now here the hard bit,if i want to get to the figure of 92 degrees i would have to lower my arm by 12mm,as 4mm of travel at the pivot end makes 1 degree of change at the sharp end!

what have i learnt?
well to be honest it sounds great as it is,i did try raising up the platter height by sticking a reso mat on top of the standard lp12 mat but it didnt make much difference,just made the vocals a bit less and cymbals a tad blunt. i think i will leave the sra where it is and the tonearm level.
all in all worth a punt and i had fun taking the pics.

i might try adding some more tacking weight,this,from what ive read has more effect on the sra angle than raisng the or lowering the arm height,more weight brings it closer to 92 degrees,although it does require i go through the whole process again which at this moment in time i cant be arsed! lol
unless someone would care to say that once in the magic area the sound is awesome .
