Caiman playing up - any ideas?

Hi all,

After a short 4 week period without use whilst I was away, my 'Gatorized' Caiman DAC is now playing up a little and I hope someone here may be able to shed some light...

I'm now getting low level audio through the right channel when the volume is set at zero, however when the volume is taken up a little the left channel comes in and both R&L remain balanced thereafter.
I've swapped L&R speakers to eliminate them, and problem is still R channel of DAC.
All cables are new and of good quality.

I must admit I have little to no knowledge about these things :scratch: as I'm more of a 'plug in, switch on, turn up, and hope it works' sort ... any thoughts out there?

The setup is Macbook Pro via USB to DAC to KRK Rokit nearfield active monitors.

Hi Steve, how are you controlling the volume? Via the Caiman on variable output, or is the Caiman on fixed and the Mac for volume control?

Volume control is on the Caiman unit with the variable output.

The volume control pot is not shorted to ground when it is turned right down, so you can get a bit of sound bleeding through when the pot is worn a bit over time.

A bit like me then .... getting a little worn, but still serviceable for the moment!

I'll try the fixed output and control the volume from the Mac ..... don't know if this will affect the sound quality of output though?

It doesn't affect the sound quality. But you should really start thinking of the Caiman MKII very soon whilst the resale value of the Caiman MKI is still good.
