Headphones make up a large part of my late night listening.
I have found it nice to have both open and sealed for different reasons and different kinds of music.
For example the AKG Q701 loves vocals and almost anything you throw at them but if you are listening to rock, some blues, organ, reggae and electronic. The Ultrasone 780 is a whole lot more fun.
I like to recable with large Canare star quad giving me 4 x 21 Awg. 2 Per channel for a 14 awg L and 14 awg R. I use the large copper shield as ground/return.
So at 20ft. There is no loss at all.
I use the best connectors I can get.
I also took the Ultrasons to a new level by simply changing the thin sweaty vinyl ear pads. Look at the difference in one of the pictures.
I now have great bass but even better sound stage as the drivers are a little further from the ears.
The 780 is awesome for travel and drives at 32 ohm.
The AKG needs a really good tube amp with more output to shine .
I have never heard a open back that offered much fast punchy bass, this is best left to sealed headphones.
So they don't leave the house.15357153581535915360153611535715358153591536 0
