Well, that got your attention!

In preparation for the Whittlebury Show (please come to my stand in the Brooklands Suite for a chat) I have removed the plinth from the old Kenwood KD-990. The KD-990 will be performing vinyl duties with a Jelco SA-750E 10" tonearm fitted, all to showcase my Improved Jelco Mounting Collars and the JSA Headphone Conditioners from VertexAQ.

Here is the naked KD-990. I think it looks rather cool. It sounds very good indeed, freed from its plinth (which is purely superficial to the core design).

I love the Kenwood decks with that chassis. Top of my shopping list when I get some cash. I'm curious as to how much of an improvement the Jelco is over the stock arm.

He.He! So Kenwood did a skeletal design years before Rega RP 10 came out. Wonder if Roy Gandy already knew that :D Looks cool by the way.

It's probably on par with the Kenwood's original arm, so not an improvement as such. The SA-750E is on there to showcase Jelco arms and my improved collars, for the Whittlebury Show. When Johnnie at Audio Origami has finished fettling and re-wiring the Kenwood arm (with Audio Note silver wire), it will be going back on the KD-990.

Not the same at all - the KD-990 skeletal chassis is rather sturdy and clearly not intended to be low mass, which the RP10 takes to an elegant extreme. Kenwood's design does work, though, particularly with Stillpoints OEM feet in place of the plastic originals; and of course it does look cool and pleasingly dinky. The plinth will go back on eventually, since the convenience of a lid is not something that I can do without for long.
