After doing a bit of research I'm thinking of going for a pair HD650/600's

However, I'm open to other makes/types. They will be for home use.

cheers
Brian

Have a look at Superlux reviews. There is a lot of good feedback on these.
I have never heard them myself.

Hi Brian, I have a boxed pair of AKG K550's (as seen here (http://www.amazon.co.uk/AKG-K550-Closed-Back-Headphones-Compatible/dp/B005CNR7B0/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1441609240)) which have probably only been used for around 5 hours max... I'd be willing to let them go for £70, which would include tracked UK mainland shipping...

Thanks guys. I seem to have GAS for 650/600 or similar, was even looking at HD700, but that's creeping up a little new price.

While the mentioned Sennheiser models are generally well reviewed (perhaps not the HD700), they have a distinctly veiled and laid back sound to them. This makes for easy fatigue free listening but can be very dull, particularly if you prefer more presence/bite/treble in your listening.

If you can share a little more about your preferred sound then we may be able to provide more targeted recommendations.

Good point.
I'm not sure how to describe what sound I like. I suppose a natural sounding as possible. Not too bassy and not zingy and over bright.

If I could try to explain using TV for example. I find most new HD TV far to unreal in the way it compared to real life. I think the contrasts are far to pronounced. I'm not sure that helps at all now that I've wrote it down.

In that case I think you are indeed looking for the right headphones.
The HD650 are probably the best bet and, if they don't work out for some reason, you will have no problem selling them on at little or no loss in future.

HD650s are warmer and smoother than the 600s which I much prefer for a more vivid and natural sound, I find the 650s too coloured.
There has just been an advert posted on the wam for some Beyer DT990s and these have a great midrange and are one of the most comfortable sets of headphones u can buy :)
