AR 18. are these any good?

The surround foams have perished .
Are these worth re foaming?

Hi Carlos.

They are not one of AR's finest efforts (I don't like those tweeters much), but they're definitely worth repairing. The surrounds can be found on eBay usually, often from US sellers. It's not a hard job if you're careful. You should find that suitable adhesive is included with the surrounds.

I do not know this model, i have the AR58 and they were definitly worth Refoaming. You can get a kit from the US for about £22 and they are not too difficult to do, if you take your time.

I had a pair of these when they came out, ran them via Rotel RA921 ( which I still have ), and Marantz CD52 Mark II ( still have this too ), don't remember much about the speakers but seem to remember they sounded ok for a budget system and were touted in What HiFi at the time.
