View Full Version : Need a bargain CD player to use as transport
As title suggests, I am going to need a CD player with spdif output for testing some DACs.
I kind of missed the CD era so would appreciate any recommendations for a (very) cheap but worthwhile player with a solid transport mechanism.
Thanks!

The older style of Rega Planet is pretty good in this role.

Pioneer stable platter type, they're good units. I have three. £100 or less will get you something nice.

This looks decent and may go for a sensible price.

I have a Pioneer PD-S705 with remote I will let go for £55 plus postage if you are interested, very good transport and a good player on it's own.

I have a Sony CDP-XB720 CD player with SPDIF output (plus remote), I'm going to put up for sale here on AoS. In excellent condition, I shall be asking £50 + carriage.
Nice one. That'll be a serious bargain for someone, as all of your stuff is mint! :)
Marco.
Thanks guys, I had a stable platter player for a couple of years, but didn't realise they were any good so gave it away...
Will grab another one when the time comes. Cheers :)
I've got an 'old' style Rega Planet going spare if you are still looking for something. £50 plus carriage.

OK. I'll have it as long as you are OK with me taking this apart, fitting tubes in place of the op-amps and pimping out the spdif power supply.
I've got no problems with you doing that at all :)
I'll PM some details later today - at work at the moment :)
Thanks to Dave & Nigel I will have both the Rega (british pedigree) and the Pioneer (lampizator favourite) to poke about with and modify.
Not sure how easy that Rega casework will be to mill out holes for the tube sockets but it will look classy when it's done, for sure.
