Why do well mastered 24 bit recordings sound so good on vinyl?

I'm guessing that the cut's are well done, maybe at half speed too?

I don't know, but I agree with your comment.
The recent Zeppelin reissues on vinyl sound excellent.

I am a massive analogue fan and much of the vinyl I have which is mastered form analoque does sound just that bit more natural but I have been very impressed with a lot of new vinyl taken form 24bit recordings which I guess is most stuff from early 1980;s onwards.

I remember at NEBO5 last year Alan playing some R2R with digitally sourced material and it sounded superb.

Is it that the last omission of a DAC in the chain that renders the digital recording that bit more palatable - to my ears anyway?

Because, generally speaking, a digital recording is superior to an analogue recording even if it is hamstrung by the medium used to replay it? ;)

A matter of personal taste and opinion, I suppose.

Brothers In Arms is a 16 bit digital recording, sounds very good on all mediums including vinyl. Since vinyl is incapable of reproducing the potential available dynamics on 24 bit or even 16 bit recordings I don't see how it matters what the bit depth of the recording was.

I reckon it's the added distortion of a needle tracing a groove that you like.

That said, distortion can sound great.
The Analogue Productions pressing of Hugh Masekela's live album, "Hope" is incredible.
