I would like to share with AOS society my own experience.

Task: replacement of glass Rack for audio eqipment for very-very reasonable money.

Preamble

One day I sit and look with sadness on my ugly chinese no-name brand glass Rack.

I've red many years ago about experience to use table Ikea Lakk (http://ikeashop.com.ua/katalog/spalnya/418/417/151.html#podrobno) instead of Audio Rack. My wife advised me that we have opportunity to buy Ikea items using their shop in Internet. I visited their pages and decided to order Ikea Hemnes (http://ikeashop.com.ua/katalog/spalnya/418/417/52467.html#podrobno) tables instead of Lakk.

But I realized that it is not specialized audio furniture. Thus I bought 3 sets of Monacor spikes SPS-10/SC (http://www.monacor.de/index.php?id=128&artikelid=2521&L=1).

I totally spend for above mentioned items about 285 USD.

I will use my material to improve the Rack from Hemnes tables and show photos of course.

I've been lucky with legs of tables - I didn't drill any holes, I just removed plastic from the ends and installed basements with internal thread for spikes.

About change in Sound:

I replaced only Rack, nothing else.
Now I am sitting with bulding eyes 1 week. I cann't beleive to my own ears.

Fundamental change in Sound. It got basement, not only in low band. Acoustic instruments sound much more realistic, more natural. Soundstage is huge and detailed, on some modern records with special effect and virtual instruments I jumped from coach from surprise, it looks like some audioghosts produce some extramundane sounds. :D

Of course I know that in more or less transparent System you may hear any changes in gear but not on such level. :wowzer:

Well, let's go to show 2nd part.

Lower shelf.

I cut off 4 stripes from my material (2.5 mm) and fixed on glue.
This shelf is under AMR DP-777. 2 other lower shelves will be done in same way later when I will get material (9 mm) to fix last question with installed earlier spikes.

Nice work. Fitting adjustable spikes to the likes of these will help no end as a flat base on carpet or wood flooring isn't ideal.

Demonstrating rip off British prices as usual!! ie 80.4 USD = £52.42

Thank you, Neil,

I am waiting washers with diameter 18 mm for Monacor saddles to complete the tweaking.
Also 2 lower shelves will be fixed as I showed above.

I'll show and report later.

Also I will tell about my used material later in more details.

Looks good Eisener,
I like the look of your mains filter under table. Very substantial!!
Spoke to friend today who is getting Golden Gate Lampiaztor. Top of range
And to my surprise he mentioned changing fuse in it? Apparently it's not inside but on the back in the plug socket. I've never heard of this until you mentioned it? Now it seems everyone is on about lol
I will keep you updated on the fuse progress and hopefully sonic improvements

I may describe my own experience with audiophile fuses of british AMR.
But it will be off top here, so I can do it in my System if you like.

This thread is not for discussion about audiophile fuses, it's about Rack.
We can shift to my thread (http://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?40310-Eisener-Bart-s-Tuning-Room).

Well done Eisener, it's amazing the difference a Hifi table/rack makes.
I use Torlyte to good effect.

I would say it is more a case of pricing according to the retail acceptability and climate of the market,

Nicely done. I wouldn't have thought IKEA, looks like it was meant for hi-fi in the first place.

I too have replaced a glass rack with an IKEA furniture
https://imageshack.com/i/eyelVV4Sj

Like you, I have also experienced an improvement in sound: The bass got more tight and a slight "boom" in the bass was gone and it's more centered than before where it was kind of "all over the place" at heavy basslines. I suspect it's the bigger surface of furniture opposite the flimsy open glass rack.
The TV was on a tripod like this
http://dbastatic.dk/pictures/pictures/bb/8b/c4ff-078c-47ca-a820-b8fa2fd814ef.jpg?preset=normal
So I went from an open arrangement to one that covers more of the backwall. I changed it because we wanted a nicer solution and hide all the cables. But the better sound was an unexpected bonus. Mine cost 1000 danish kr. about 134 euro. Quite cheap too compared to furnitures dedicated to hi-fi. Looking at forums, IKEA furnitures have found their way in to at lot of hi-fi homes as hi-fi furniture and for record storage.
