I heard a pair of these, or similar, at the Wigwam Scalford Show a year or 3 back. I was totally surprised by the sound - amazingly open and neutral mids (BBC Sound in spades!) and with real clout at the bottom end.

A real bargain, imo. GLWS. :)

These are nice. One of the last of what I regard as 'real KEFs'. Looking at the spec, the sensitivity is higher than I expected, so they should be easy enough to drive. Not heard a pair for many years, but my recollection is of a very neutral and powerful sound. A hell of a lot of high class speaker for the money!

Man, I used to lust after those when I was starting out. Not enough WAF to get them now though:(

Not too obvious with the grilles on. KEF didn't want them reviewed at the time, but KJ, then in Wigmore St, loaned their demo pair to Martin Colloms for 'Choice and a hearty recommendation was born.

I owned a pair of these for 10 years and still think they had the best mids of any speaker. You need an amp that can take a firm hold and get them into free air. You will be rewarded with a sound way better than what came later. Probably bi-amp them would be best with a beefy transistor amp for those bass units and a nice valve amp for the mids-highs.
They also work as awsome fronts for ultimate theatre sound.

The Uni-Q drivers were half baked when they were launched, but genuinely did get better as the 90's went on. The curvy-fronted Reference range from fifteen years or so ago really were excellent speakers, especially the bigger ones, I remember.

The 105's need power and I wonder what a great cheap proper-power amp such as the Crown XLS range would do for them. Most domestic amps are just too weedy and will get caught by the crossover I fear...

I have a set of the later (mid 90's) 105's with uni Q and yes they are superb! I can't agree with them needing power though. They are efficient and use KEFS conjugate load matching and so, in spite of being 4 Ohm, they stay 4 Ohm without peaks and dips. Even my Leak Stereo 20 will drive them with ease to very high levels.

These according to Jerry Bloomfield at Falcon Acoustics are Mk 2 Heads on Mk1 Bass units, he suspects Kef were just using up the Mk1 units until stocks ran out.

The crossovers: note no resistors

£350 for these...!! Bloody lovely, Dunc.

The crossovers are very interesting indeed using no resistors, a properly tuned bit of kit.

Good luck with the sale...
