Hi all.

My partner is a nutritionist and has been doing some excellent blogging about what really goes in to our food and drink.

It also has some yummy recipes. :)

Take a look, it's all very interesting.

Yeah, terrifying isn't it.

We live from our garden just about so agree with your partner on many things here.

Must try the microwave jam at some time as it's me that gets to stir the pot and it can take a bit of the summer preparing it all. We have enough this year to keep us going for a while and still a dozen pots from last year.

A nation of jam eaters - quite right.

Brilliant thread topic, Jo! I'll comment more later.

I read the bit on cheap wine, and as an experienced and discerning wine drinker, there's nothing much in there that I didn't already know, which is why I drink the type of wine I do, and mostly 'old world' varieties that tend not to be bastardised to the same degree. However, for many folks, I suspect that they'll find some of the info in your link rather shocking

As ever, there's always a price to pay for trading quality for quantity!! :exactly:

Folk in this country, IMO, are WAY too price-obsessed, when buying their food and drink, as if it was the bee-all-and-end-all, particularly when most of them could afford to spend more if they wanted to, especially if they cut back on fags and scratch cards...! ;)

Marco.

Thanks guys.

Yes, if you can grow your own it's well worth the effort. We all think the supermarkets do us well, but they are always finding ways of making a profit and WILL substitute 'REAL' ingredients with a man made substitute.

It might look the same, taste the same but it isn't the same and because the law on ingredients lists isn't anywhere near tight enough the manufacturers can and will abuse it to cut corners and save money.... yet still charge you the same price... and depending on the amount of the certain substitute/s they don't have to tell you on the packaging. Why, because reprints are too costly (well, not really as they have the means to do this) unless it's a major shift in the manufacturing process.

We are passionate about this and like real food, for health reasons and the principle of eating correctly without the cloak of added mystery chemical substitutes.

If you guys would be so kind as to Like, Tweet etc, that would be great.

I'm strictly of the "where ignorance is bliss, 'tis folly to be wise" persuasion when it comes to food. Having said that, I don't drink cheap wine.
