Hi there,

Having a big clearout here, I'm now considering parting with my beloved BBC set-up.
Including:
-A mint pair of LS5/8, walnut I presume, drivers mint.
I guess the wood is walnut.
-A recapped pair of 405 , one of them is slightly noisy so must be inspected. Also not mint on optical point of view.
-A minidsp active crossover. Very handy as you can adjust it (in live!!)
-A matching st of LS cable (250cm) xlr to banana(factory assembled, no DIY)

So a plug&play offer, just need to feed the 405.
I've great result with passive preamplifier.

This set was demoed in Salford 2014/2015 with great result.
Think about a big LS3/5a afro

You can listen in big or small room and adjust the HF level or crossover: again, very handy.

Will consider selling it without crossover.

I thought this rig sounded wonderful when I heard it at Scalford. Best in show, in fact.

Have a bump on me.

(Sorry, but the wife would kill me if I bought any more kit this year.)

Jim.

It would greatly help your sale Chris, if you could include some images of the Swisstone-modified Quad 405 (AM8/16).

Hi Barry,
Thanks for suggestion, will do later.
BTW they are stock 405 modded for mono operation and recapped.

Hi Barry,

The AM8/16 amplifiers are indeed modified Quad 405 designs, whereby one channel is used to power the woofer and the second to power the tweeter. The Rogers 5/8 speaker does not include a crossover network. The frequency splitter network is built into the amplifier case. It was designed by the BBC using a stock Quad 405 amplifer for modification, with the two outputs feeding the 5 pin XLR connector of each speaker.

It think it would be wise to include photos of your modified 405s, preferably showing the interior as well as the rear of the amp showing the connectors.

No, but it looks to me as if they might have been modified by Quad Gmbh, in the same way as the AM8/16. The AM8/16 is a BBC designation.

To be absolutely clear, would it be possible to show a photo of the amp with the cover removed, so we can see an overall view of the interior and how the frequency filtering is carried out?

Thanks for the free bumps Barry ;-)

You're welcome Chris. Good luck with the sale.

Folks, at £1,250 this is a very good price for such an active system.
