Hi Folks I'm from Sydney Australia and revitalised my hifi interest about 4 years ago.

I mainly play vinyl and after starting with a Rega P2, picked up a Kenwood KP9010 from hifi do in Japan. The Kenwood is a direct drive turntable made in the mid 80s - at the twilight of Japanese turntable engineering and is second to the Kenwood L07D - the top of the line in the Kenwood range. She sounds sweet and fingers are crossed for many years of service :-)

Musical tastes are mainly alternative and prog rock, although recently I've been adding 60s music to the collection.

Rest of system consists of GCPH Phono Stage, Exposure 2010S2 amp and Orpheus Apollo Speakers. There is an Ortofon MC10 Supreme on the Kenwood.

Apart from considering another cartridge I have no other symptoms of upgraditis right now !

MC10 supreme is a pleasant enough sounding MC. What about a ZYX R50 Bloom? They should be available at sensible prices in Australia and they sound great.

Likely best if you scour eBay Aus and worldwide listings. There are some reputable Far East sellers. I and members here have bought from them.

Don't forget to allow for import duty and carriage costs if applicable.

PS Talking of Aussie performers, I'm a great fan of the now defunct 'Red Gum' - a brilliant band with a decidedly left of centre slant to their lyrics and social commentary. :)

Loz - good list of Oz bands. Do you like The Angels ? They were spectacular live and sadly the lead singer passed away recently.

Barry I do like Redgum and have a bunch of their albums ! Particular like 'Caught in the Act', live album with great banter in between songs.

I'm just visiting my parents who live in your fine city at the moment. I saw an Akai turntable in an op shop yesterday, probably not in the same bracket as your Trio I would imagine but still a quite sturdy looking turntable. Unfortunately I didn't get the model number.

I've picked up plenty of CDs as the selection in the op shops seems to be much wider than at home. I haven't found any good records yet though as these seem an even worse selection than in the UK charity shops. Hopefully I can get to some vinyl specialists soon.

Never heard of them :) What type of music do they play? I like things on the harder, edgy style as you can probably tell :) Some great bands come from Oz and especially AC/DC, Airbourne & INXS; I saw AC/DC with Bon Scott at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall on the Powerage tour for the grand total of a fiver!!! I've seen em 3 times since with Brian Johnson - fantastic but, the sleazyness and ambiguous lyrics from Bon Scott and the way he delivered em can never be replicated. He was quite simply one of the best rock n roll frontmen of all time !!!!!

I saw Airbourne on one of their first tours here (when they were only just getting noticed) at the Little Carling in Birmingham - I met all the guys from the band, they were really great down to earth guys (bassist was a bit quiet/reserved though). I was meant to see INXS on the Elegantly Wasted tour but unfortunately, we were on holiday and I couldn't go; not long after Michael Hutchence Died :( I was absolutely gutted.

There are some good record stores in the city, if you haven't already been there I'd recommend Red Eye Records. Another good one is Mojo records is vinyl store / bar in case you're after a drink as well.

You got to some great gigs Loz - nicely done !

The Angels supported AC/DC in some of their early tours. They never had great international success but are cited by the Seattle grunge set as an influence (Pearl Jam etc...). Their live shows are still the best I've ever seen and if you want to check them out have a look at some of the live stuff on YouTube. Given the bands you mentioned you may well like them.
