Just got my hi-fi back up and running again after many years of 'no you can't have all the wires and massive boxes in the living room' conversations with the ex.
Anyway, now it's all connected up again. Great:)

Music....Probably like most people...I like most music. However, I do tend to look back at stuff from years and years ago more than listening out for new stuff which is a shame. Mostly I would say Ska/2Tone, Punk (Ramones era stuff) and some Mod with a smattering of Northern Soul.
I play a bit of guitar so I tend to lean towards guitar based music if that makes sense.

Hello Brian,
Using your CD player as a transport basically means it will just spin and read the disc. Then using coaxial cable into back of CD player and into an external Dac. So the external dac will up scale the cd and basically make it sound a lot better than your CD player would.
Dac Magic for instance is a reasonable priced Dac to do this job. Just check if you have coaxial output on back of your CD player?

A CD player has a DAC (digital to analogue converter) built in. Players are available without the DAC circuity, these are known as CD transports and are intended for use with an external DAC. A normal CD player may come with a digital output socket, this enables it to also be used with an external DAC. The reason for all this, is that most (but not all) built in DACs in DC players are built down to a price and a bit of a compromise. They can be improved on with a higher spec external DAC.
