New LP inners drive me nuts

What's wrong with the modern LP manufacturing process?

I've now bought quite a few re-issues and new releases and too many of them have TIGHT inner sleeves that make extracting the vinyl a disaster in the making. Unless you've got hands like a gynecologist you just can't get in to balance a finger on the centre and rest the record edge on your palm, gently pulling the inner away from the LP. The main culprits seem to be the card inners with pix and lyrics printed on them.

You then have to pinch the run-in between finger and thumb and try to pull the record out vertically while keeping a firm grip, all the while trying not to think about what the close contact is doing to the LP surface. Heaven help you if you've had a couple of sherbets.

Don't the people who design these things ever try them out? :doh:

I've just bought a supply of poly lined inners http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/370857847242?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2648&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT and am gradually replacing all the problem sleeves before any serious damage is done.

It never used to be like this. Or is it only me?

You are correct, it wasn't like this back in the day.

I use a combination of inners. I have some cheapo "Nagaoka" style round bottom things that I slot inside the inner (if the inner isn't too tight) but i get frustrated with these because they crumple.

Alternatively I use the things you have linked to.

Wot Grant sez. They will usually fit inside the printed inners.

Cant go wrong with the Mofi inners, as Ali said they will fit inside inner sleeves for those ones that are printed with albumart etc.

Jimmy Hughes had and maybe still does, many thousands of LP's in his huge collection. Many of them, despite having poly inners, seemed to mark the record surface, or at least leave a surface mark which could be difficult to clean off. He set about replacing or adding in Nagaoka inner sleeves, which didn't mark the record surface long term. A shame our life-paths have diverted, as I'd like to know how he and his fabulous music collection is..

my next batch will be mfol mofi. i have a few and have to say they are the best ive used for the money... the JAPAN white onesforgot name) are best ive handled but pricey for me and i dont have damp issues.

I've had a few like this too, very very annoying when you mark a nice new record trying to pull it out.
I bought the anti static liners from Scott a while back to use instead.
Also I'm getting a few new records that have problems getting over the spindle. It's not to bad going over its getting it back off again! :steam::steam:
