The voting starts now

Do you think I will get any contact from the seller ? :)

Or do you think it will go all quiet ?

If I do get it as I should as I WON the AUCTION it must be a bargain of the year :D

You could at least have had a 'don't care' option in the poll choices!

(don't know that machine, but it looks a serious bit of kit for the money)

Good luck with that! Have you managed to secure a service manual or circuit diagram?

Am I missing something? It's NOT WORKING.... So therefore you've paid £42 for some old tat [serious pishanto] that's only use is for an ornament, unless it can be fixed, and cheaply! But there's no input or output - and that sounds expensive...

Personally, I'd have spent the money instead on records! :D

Lol, no... But you've made a big deal of this particular piece of pishanto, as if it's 'bargain of the century', which patently it isn't

Anyway, hope he sends it to you - I'm sure he will!

The Mitsubishi digital tapes were top notch in their day. Part of the design brief was that the error correction was so good you could edit the tape with a razor blade and not get digital drop out. Scarce as hen's teeth, they had one at Bronze Records Chalk Farm Studios in London for a while. It was the most analogue behaving of all the dig tapes. I worked with it once in t 80s, then i think they changed it for a 3m. When I put the recording facilities into the Rainbow Theatre, we looked at them, but at around £9K for the 2 track IIRC, it was way beyond the budget and we went second hand Studer A80 for the 2 track in the end. Again IIRC, the input and output were class A transformer matched and had a really smooth but detailed sound. Great buy if you can get it working.

Yes I think you will get it Al, seller seems genuine and has stated it has faults so you are buying something not working, spares or repair so a fair price Id say

I've voted that you will get it.

BUT !!!!

You do realise that this guy is not going to send it to you don't you? It states collection only or he will let you send your own courier.

note the deck and PSU are really heavy atleast 30 KG each!!! 2 man lift!!

youll either have to pick up in MID WALES or arrange a carrier yourself

Either you need to drive to Wales or pay a special courier (man with van type) to pick it all up without packing and deliver to your door (probably cost a few hundred quid). Mid Wales isn't too bad from Dagenham - 3.5 hours drive each way?

Remember you will need to buy special digital tape for the deck (doesn't come with the tape reels shown), same as used for the Nagra D so might be a little expensive.

It's one of those things, it could be stonking or a nice, yet rather huge paper weight stuck in the corner of your room. If you have the know how to get it going again, then it could be a bargain. Just don't spend too much money on it as I don't think it's worth much more in working condition. If it's beyond repair, flog it.

Did you see those Penny & Giles PCM recorders a few months back, they went for a song.

Voted yes for you... fingers crossed.

That's one hell of a round trip! Used to go from Newtown (~45 miles away) to Southend to see family when I was a kid, I don't envy you doing it there and back in one day, although I did do Brighton and back in one day to pick up an SL1210 :mental:. Lovely scenery once you get through Newtown, or rather once you get through Newtown, enjoy!

Just seems like a nice day out to me. Everywhere over here is a long way away. Going up to see Alan for the day would be about the same trip. Start early, spend the day and back in time for a late tea. No probs, especially if the weather is good.

Enjoy your day:)

Why do it in one day and knacker yourself out? Have you got to rush back for anything important, daftee?

If not, there are loads of cheap hotels, scattered all over the UK. Simply do what you have to do, drive half way home, then check into the nearest Premier Inn, or whatever, and finish the remainder of your journey back the next day, relaxed and refreshed after having had a good night's sleep and a full English breakfast.

That's the way I'd do it - nice and civilised, and the same thing would apply if I were in France! Life's too short, dude, to be running around like a headless chicken, for the sake of an R2R :exactly:

I always think that life's too short to waste the next day's morning still driving back when if you'd just held out for a little longer you could have been home and slept in your own bed.

Then you get to have a lie-in in the morning and waste it in bed! Win-win

I know exactly what you mean, as I've done that many times myself. However, this particular journey is a rather long one, so if it were me, I'd split it and crash out in a hotel. Most of these places do breakfasts up until pretty late, and you can sleep when you get home :)
