Emille KI40L valve amp

Selling my beloved Emille amp ( recently running SD acoustics SD1 nicely)...The amp was recently serviced by Radford revival, have receipt. They also placed 2 fuses, pics available. The amp was purchased in 2013, and then was not fully run in. The valves are JJ KT77, I also have cryo genic valves.

I noticed the other day, that the small valves are flickering, and also the light on the bias adjustment dial ????

I just dont want the hassle of having to send this to Radford again..hence will look at an alternative such as Icon audio, or pure sound. I really like the Emille, hopefully someone who knows valve amps etc will take interest.

This really should be collected from Torquay, however I can post in UK, there is also a big wood crate for transporting the amp, the amp comes with the isolation stand.

Under the small valves are yellows orange LEDs to enhance the glo, the wiring is also connected to the bias meter bulb, it will just be a dry joint or something very similar/simple.

Had one of these amps for a few years and loved it!
It went to Paul at RFC and he still uses it happily :)

Yup, great amp, never had a problem with it and built like a battleship. It would be a BIG retrograde step going to something like Icon Audio. Not anywhere near in the same league nor as well screwed together. As Dan says, it sounds like something very simple indeed as the LEDs feeding the driver/PI valve base area and the boas bulb are interconnected. It'll be a loose wire or dry joint, easily rectified.

Having heart Paul's one of these, if I didn't have the Radford STA100 I'd be looking down the back of the couch right now.

Very nice amp with a respectable amount of welly, though with refinement as well.

I can also vouch for this amps quality. The mids are very clear and open sounding, but without being intrusive.

The bass is precise and solid. No stereotype valve softness here!

£1,600 is a ferking steal!!

If I had the spare cash if have one again in heartbeat and I'm only down the road from u!
I've just bought way too much lately and it's been essentials, hifi and household, this would be an added luxury.

I sincerely apologise for saying this, but time after time I've been at shows, looking at all the new bling confections for sale and remember a year or three later, seeing them for sale at a tiny fraction of their original selling prices. I'm no longer in a position to even consider such a financial drop I'm afraid, although that means bargains can be had if one is careful. You usually have to look at once popular units and realise that above the areas of severe price competition, the innate quality of the products themselves becomes the reason why some items hold value well before they become old enough to be vintage collectors' items- many Krell and ML amps as solid state for example and EAR and Croft for valve products (I'm leaving ARC out of it as I don't think they're as well designed, leading to constant model changes and no real progression!).

AN products seem to retain a certain resale value, so hopefully you won't be hit hard with repair bills or resale value when the time comes to move it on. Again, apologies if you think I'm spoiling it for you.

Gosh I hope you know what you are doing (and have the chance to hear it first) ... I'm not fan at all of the Meishu and its 9w single ended output ... I stried a Meishu Silver Signature Phono with my Tannoy GRFs (15in MGs) and also with 15in HPDs ... while DC tannoys on the whole aren't the best with most single ended amps (unless you have small cabs where the bass floppiness won't be an issue), the Meishu was worse than most. (Though the phono stage was decent). Having heard the Emille I'd take that any day over a Meishu.

Main exception would be 94db+ sensitive speakers where you might get the benefit of single ended. But most real world speakers (barring seriously indefficient power-guzzlers where you really need solid state or a much bigger valve amp) would work better with the 40-50w of the Emille.

The issue isn't volume per se, the Meishu goes loud enough on those 9w, but with the wrong speakers it's just not got the definition and 'snap' to be properly musical. The 300b is a nice enough valve but you can't defy the laws of physics with it.

Agree on Dave's point that more exotic kit is hard to shift, but AN residuals aren't fantastic either. Tread carefully I'd say. What speakers are you going to be using it for?

The Emille will run most speakers, it was running a pair of SD Acoustcs SD1 nicely..which have now had new Audex driver installed.

1960's Tannoys hard to drive? Umm, a Quad 303 driven passively copes brilliantly with them and gives VERY little away sonically, honestly! Mind you, the 303 doesn't have two huge light bulbs in milk bottles sticking out the top, so would be ignored because it doesn't look the part...

For flash looking valve amps with 'wishful thinking' looking output valves ;) I was once very taken with some Unison Research 845's. Gutless into most speakers, they sounded fab into Quad 63's on proper stands...

The quads drive the ESL...If I am correct we did have some quads, well my son did, too warm sounding for me.....must ask him what models they where...
