Triumph of the Will, Jerry ;)

better than a Triumph TR7, anyway....

Never understood why they went from something as pretty as the TR6 to a door wedge on wheels in the 7. I guess the end was near...

I had two 2000, two 2500S, a 2.5PI and a TR7. My favourite was a chocolate brown Mk.II 2500S manual. Beautiful motor.

I was a Dolomite 1850/Sprint fan for all my sins - loved the interior design, which was fully realised in the 2000/2500 series.

Nice Analogy, as a previous owner of a Dolomite Sprint, 1850HL, TR7 and Acclaim....... The Sprint was a hoot but the TR7 was the best all round and the Acclaim the best 'car', it actually worked ;)

I had all except the TR7, the platform of which was going to be stretched into the Dolomite range replacement I understand before it all went wrong.

Woo, yeah - I've got a Ford Fusion+ 1.6 automatic.

Better than a TR7 any day. ;) ... well, I can get 2 folding bikes into the boot area. Bet you can't do that with a TR7. :D

Had a TR6 back in the '80s - drove it to Moscow in 1984 - fantastic car. Had it for 9 years, did 90,000 miles in it, then sold it for more than I paid for it - and by then the bonnet was a different colour to the body with a nice dent in it, and you could see the tyres through the holes in the wings!

Cheers. Bill

Wife and I both worked in a car dealership that was in the last months of selling Triumph/Rover, her first driving lesson was was in a Stag, unfortunately by the time I turned 17 the place had converted to a Peugeot franchise, I had to wait a long time to get my turn in a mates Stag, although by that time the original engine has expired and it ford v6 powered.

Had a 2 litre mk2 Vitesse convertible which I'd love to see outside again. Wonderful straight six howl and small enough to be really useful round Devon lanes, but structural integrity was a foreign concept. Dad had three 2000s, all lovely, but I have to admit I preferred the Rover 3500S I had for an all to brief period. Also enjoyed my brother's Dolomite Sprint. There's nothing like that now. Where do you find a small but luxurious family car with serious grunt and brilliant handling? Whenever I see any of these cars I'm amazed at how compact they are compared to their modern counterparts, despite being perfectly roomy and comfortable.

I don't think I'd describe the Dolly sprint as having Brilliant handling TBH! I had one for many years and wrote it off due to its wayward handling. Fully rebuilt it with a complete shell from the factory and SAH tuning parts with twin 40 Webers...stunning it was then I stooopidly sold it! :mental:

Local car show there where two of these, this is the genuine one the other was a conversion with iffy body kit:

Mark 1 GT6. All engine (and what a great engine) and no chassis thanks to its Herald roots.

Sideways everywhere with the back wheel tucked under and the front hanging in the air. A good way to learn car control. I moved to Alfas and realised how dangerous my life had been.

Errrr the GT6 had a chassis! I think you may still be able to buy new ones..... http://www.canleyclassics.com/triumph-gt6-mki/ii-chassis/

I switched to Alfas as well, swapped one set of headaches for another LOL.

Yeah but you know what I mean.:)

All the Alfas I had were totally reliable and the only one that showed any rust was the Sud. That had lots of course thanks to that top quality Russian steel.

GT6 Mk.III is the one. Then bung a nice 2500 engine it, with a gas flowed head. Decent cam. A pair of big SUs or a large Weber. Free flow manifold & exhaust. Uprated shocks & springs and away you go.

I hate to be picky Neal, but that is a Vitesse not a Herald. The clues are of course the name badge on the bonnet and the twin headlights. The 13/60 Herald rhat shared the body shape, had singles. My mum had a 2litre white convertible one and I learned to drive in it. My dad had a mk1 GT6 at the time, he changed that for a mk2 where they had spoiled the styling slightly, but sorted the rear suspension, so it both went and handled. All these had 2 litre straight dixes with overdrive on 3rd and 4th gear. Great cars and some great memories. Like Gordon, I went over to Alfas, my first being my second car an Alfasud Cloverleaf Sprint Veloce, stonking little motor and when it rusted away, I got good money for the engine

Ain't that the truth. I feel I'm driving a bus with the Audi but I look at other 'compact' saloons on the road and the damn things tower over me and seem to stretch for miles (Kms) front to back. They are supposed to be cars not houses on wheels.

A friend of mine had a Mk.111 and I couldn't believe the difference. They obviously sorted the back axle.

The engine from the 2500 saloon drops straight in. Gives plenty more torque. TR250/TR5/TR6/2.5PI head fits and improves breathing. Best with good carbs. The Lucas fuel injection is not worth the complexity.

.... and better brakes too! My Marcos uses Triumph GT6 front suspension and steering, and it is a really nice, direct steering car. but a Marcos is a bit lighter than a GT6, so I'd definitely advise uprating the brakes. My Scimitar uses 'big Triumph' front suspension sourced from the TR5/TR6 range, and that's another nice handling car once you do all the usual mods....

You can always do it as attachments. Dead easy although it uses up space on the forum's server. I do that when I don't want to include the pic on my Flickr pages. On 'advanced' you can scroll down to 'manage attachments' - 'add files' and you should be able to see how it works. Careful on the size though, there is a limit.

I had a spell of wanting a 2 door Toledo after seeing photos of a race engineer's 70s runner of a Toledo lowered with a Sprint engine, an article about his work in a calssic car mag.

So, can we talk old saabs here too with their Triumph engines?

A few years ago[well actually quite a lot] the garage i worked in sent me to buy a Bond Equippe convertible, brought it back to Dunfermline from Isle of Wight were we discovered it wasn't quite what it seemed,18 months or so passed and a back to bolts costing thousands later was some car, then the bosses dad [for whom it was to be a surprise birthday present] didn't want it, I didn't have spare cash at the time but it sold for a lot less than it cost. still looking for a picture or two to put up but so far can't locate them, sorry.

I thought so at the time but kept out of it, not like me-usually mouth in gear before brain- don;t know what I'd have done with the car as I already had no room on the drive, the Bond went well, 2 litre vitesse engine on a lightweight body with the overdrive gearbox.
