Lol... Maybe we just lurve our 80s 12" singles? I've got 100s of the buggers, but wouldn't part with any, as they act as memories of my (mis-spent) yoof! :D

I think TBh they are going to make a comeback as the big music companies see it as another way to generate more money from us as the vinyl revival continues.

12" singles, produced properly, sound freakin' stunning! Done well, and played on a quality T/T, you'll struggle to hear a better sound. Some of the stuff I've got from the 80s, in that respect, is mind-blowing.... :eek:

I guess you're from an older generation when 12" singles weren't produced in the same numbers. They were particularly 'hot' during the 1980s, during which I grew up as a teenager.

I have around 600 of them, and probably about 400 7" singles, from around the same era, and also the 70s :)

I like making 70s/80s chart music compilations from them, on tape, to play in the car :)

The tapes I make up (using the Nakamichi, recording the music from my T/T) sound better than any CDs! ;)

getting up every few minutes to change would break my enjoyment for most of the time. I do like my wind up gramophone which is the same but as its 90 year old technology i forgive it:)

Yup, that's why I record them onto tape, as (on a 90 min tape) you get 45 mins of non-stop choons, before the auto-reverse mechanism kicks in and plays the other side, filled with 45 mins of non-stop choons [I fade the songs in and out of each other, too]! :eyebrows:

I also really enjoy the process of recording vinyl to tape, which takes me back to the good old days, and the golden era of analogue music reproduction. For me, it's just a whole loada fun! :)

Hi Marco, what are your favourite 12 inchers from the 80's - I'm thinking of tunes which also had excellent recordings ...

I've got a shoebox full of 7" singles, mostly from the punk and post-punk era. Very occasionally I dust them off and have a listen, but they're in a sorry state for the most part and I don't want to knacker my stylus.

Understandable... Most of my 7" singles are mint, as they've been hand picked from various music stalls and charity shops. The 12" singles are either left over from my 'yoof' (and they've been well looked after), or from the same source as the 7" ones.

Like you, only clean records in very good condition get near my stylus! An RCM helps immensely, in that respect [and I have different sized cleaning nozzles for 7 and 12-inch records] :)

Scan the boxes of your local charity shops and/or independent record shops, Alf. That's where I got a lot of mine :)
