Guys
Can someone help me get started with Moode. I have the Pi setup and working using the pre configuerd Noobs SD card so a couple of questions.
1. Do I need the boot up card to be in the Pi every time I start it?
2. Following the Moode setup guide I tried booting with the SD card containing Moode which gives me the start up screen with a Moode logo then a command line, what do I add there?
Sorry for the daft questions but it's doing my head in at the mo

You need to have the Moode SD card in not the Noobs pi card.

That will let you use the setup notes that come with the Moode image. Follow those and it is pretty easy (providing you understand) I did mine a few days ago.

http://moodeaudio.org/docs/tcmods-readme.txt

You may be too numpt to do this.

Alan
I have tried booting from the Moode card and I get
No directory, logging in with Home=/
then next line is
hardware isn't capable of remote wake up

Then reburn the card it sounds as if has been used and corrupted.

A nice fresh start - read those notes first.

BTW what version of Pi and Moode are you working with? Are you using a cable?

Im going for a meal now.

You can do all the setting up for moode with your tablet or pc. just switch the pi on with the image in and check your router to find what moode 's ip address is, then type that into a browser. you can then set everything up from there.

I think it might also be helpful in trying help to know what DAC you are using.

You do use http://moodeaudio.org/ I trust

Had another go today, reformatted the sd card did a fresh download unzipped and copied over, same result.
So deleted Moode and tried Volumio same result, I get the message hardware isn't capable of remote wake up.
I have a Hifiberry digi+ board attached so I can connect to my Chevron Sabre uv player/dac.
Edit: the cursor is flashing at the following line
pi@volumino:~$
Is there a command I need to input?

have you tried connecting to pi with a browser using its local ip address. all the settings can be done from there. best to have the pi hard wired to the router initially. i lwft mine wired as its better than wifi

Getting somewhere now, I have connected as you said, in the audio output I only see ALSA is this correct?

ive never set one up with an external dac. so will let someone else help. I just went through all the settings.. attached a usb drive and got it to read it. you should have radio at least to try out with. set dac if you can. alsa mixer is available with most dacs i think but not my onboard i sabre.
there are a few online walk throughs and some on here.... alan s might be able to help

As mentioned before you don't need to setup moode via ssh.

Have you followed the steps from the player setup (http://moodeaudio.org/docs/tcmods-readme.txt) ?

Do you have your DAC connected when doing the install? If not.....

Not yet Alan I thought the Hifiberry board would be seen as the output. I am trying to set it up on the tv then move it over to the hifi rack and connect to the dac.

Version 2.1 is supposed to support the HiFiBerry Dig+ so maybe the device or how it is fitted is not being recognised.

How about fitting a DAC directly to the Pi, USB maybe and seeing if that gets recognised

it is a listed dac.

That startpar error is a red herring and doesn't mean you're not up and running.

You need to log in to the web interface for volumio and set it up from there. (I think you can do it with http://voumio.local or if you know the IP that your Pi is on you can simply put that it (eg 192.168.1.4))

The I2s card is not 'plug and play' once it's physically installed you just need to select the correct driver for it - in the volumio interface (and notwithstanding broken hardware) it will 'just work'.

As an aside, the bit you've got to in your picture is called 'the prompt' and you can type all sorts of commands there to make your system do stuff.

try typing: ls

to list all the files in the current folder, if you want more information about them try: ls -la

If you want to know what folder you're in type: pwd
(which is short for 'present working directory')

if you want to change to another directory you can type: cd /name/of/directory (this isn't really a directory, you could try: cd /etc/network)

Or
try typing: aplay -l

this will list the currently selected audio device

or type: htop to run a program that will show you the current performance of your system (and if htop is not installed by default type: sudo apt-get install htop and it will be installed)

good stuff....is the hdd connected to usb? ...if so the psu may not be powerfull enough to spin it. i ues a powered hdd drive of you can use a powered hub. I believe there is a setting in lynux that allows a non powered hdd to run if your psu is 2 amps. butter with a powered one. initially i tried a mini hdd and light blinked but it didnt do anything else

It's a mains powered usb drive containing time machine backups from my MBP, I will probably have to move the music files into a new folder.

probably the problem. not a mac user so dont know.

Good news. What is the hard disk protocol that you gave selected?

Just read your posts. It will not read TimeMachine data that is not a format readable by anything except wait for it - Time Machine. Can you split the drive into two partitions one for TimeMachine and one for Music? If so then you will need to format the Music Partition then copy the Files from your Mac Hard disk to there. Otherwise you will need another hard disk.

Interesting dealing with another's view of their system.

Where do I look? in services I have turned everything on.
I have a usb stick with a shed load of music on it will the Pi/Volumio be able to play back from it?

AlanS

Caveat the format of the disk may be a problem but give it a try if you haven't already.

I think with Mac one has to ensure disk formats are PC compatible.

What are the optimum settings for SQ with Moode and IQ DAC+?

Initially I set the volume to 86 (under Settings>>MPD) to avoid the possible clipping problem.
Then I selected the filter to "low Latency IIR with deemph" (via Putty)

Not sure what to do with the settings "Resampling" (currently set to "Disabled") and Sample Rate Converter (currently set to "SoX very high quality").
Surely the SRC setting is irrelevant if Resampling is off?

Next I read that I should be using hardware volume since this is the big advantage of the IQ DAC. Reconfigured for hardware volume control and of course the Digital Volume in ALSAmixer changes from "86" to whatever volume I set to playback in Moode.

Should I be using hardware or software volume???

Are there other settings I've overlooked on this beastie?

Starterman, you have the same settings as I am using, filter set to low Latency IIR with deemph and no resampling. Hardware volume control set in moode with the volume control on my amp set at about 11 o'clock and adjust the volume using moode via my ipad.

yes me too. I set max at 86 but not sure it does anything. You get a large output but no clipping that I can hear.

Yes, seems to be the same.
I notice (in "Audio Info") that 16/44 WAV or FLAC has "Resampler Off", but for MP3 although it says "Resampler off" the output stream somehow gets to 24 bit 44.1K - and sounds better than usual for MP3.
I am happy with this situation.
