Calling all racing car experts

As an old slot racing fan, I still grab interesting cars when they come up on ebay. We still have plans to build another track at some stage.

Anyway, got this one today. It's a French make - Circuit24. Most unusual motor. Pretty early I would think, just a pin for the slot and metal brushes.

What I want to know is.....what the car is. It doesn't say on the chassis anywhere. I assume it's some kind of Talbot although I suppose it might be a Ferrari painted blue.

Does anyone recognise it? 50's or 60's car I assume

Not sure why your car is in French racing blue - but Ferrari sometimes entered cars through local distributors, so I have seen them in US colours, in Belgian colours and (rarely) in good old BRG.

I just found some more details of the Circuit 24 stuff on the net and the only cars with this set were Panhards or Ferraris!! Nice to know the model so thanks a lot.

Thanks for the further info. The details on Circuit 24 show that they paint all their cars in two colours. So the set would come with one red Ferrari and one in French blue. Its the same with the D.B Panhards, one red and one blue although the originals would no doubt be blue.

Someone else is selling a pair of these now, both Ferraris and one of each colour. I have to justify spending more on 'toys' (no, no dear, they are engineering marvels) when the bathroom needs finishing:rolleyes:

Great find! And that French blue car is indeed a Panhard so just perfect. nice Jag too - did they ever do a suitable Alfa model. Perhaps a nice Giulietta Veloce?

If they did an Alfa, I'll kill for it.

Interesting that Meccano used to import it to the UK. I don't remember seeing it. I suppose Scalex and Aifix ruled the roost but this seems to predate them unless they just bought it in to try and cash in. The cars are pretty crude but fun never the less. It will be interesting to see how they go.

I've just been reading up about this make and the car I have has a normal DC motor. The others are early models that have an AC Vibrator motor.

The Ferrari is now red!! Waiting for the paint to harden so I can put it back together. The red is a bit bright but I had the can in stock!!

I've been a very naughty boy (sorry Ronnie) and bought a few more. So I will have the Ferrari, Panhard, 2 Jaguar E types and a Matra. All will need converting if they are to go properly on a wooden track but I'll keep the appearance the same.

Looking at the catalogue, there are some interesting cars to find so I will keep my beadie eye open.

More evidence of reverting to childhood?

Planning stage only at present Shane. Ronnie seriously thinks that the bathroom and dining room should be done first. Blurry wimmin.

The Matra was a bit popular and had bids continuously whilst it was on. So I put a stupid high bid on with about 20 seconds to go. Still not too bad although probably more than it's really worth. Worth is a funny term though of course.

I'm sure the track will be open for business when it's done. Not too much of a detour on the way to Italy.

The big decision is how many lanes to make. Two is a bit mean and four takes up a bit of space so it will probably be three lanes. Ronnie can marshall while the REAL drivers play.

I joined a slot racing forum last week and it's amazing how many people that I used to race in the 60s are still about and still racing. One of the guys sent me a cutting from a model magazine that features a certain V Steadman winning the 24th scale GT event that day. There was already a Gordon at the club I joined so I used my middle name. Most apposite for someone who liked winning and I could put a V sign on the roof of my cars!! Not sure if can be read so tried Flickr as well. I'm the handsome chap second from right in the left hand pic. Waistcoat an all. 1967 my god... a boy at 20 years old and still a boy at 68!!

Used to have a good layout in the loft bedroom when I was a kid, based on a 15 foot 'workbench' with extra table for the twiddly bits sticking out.

As I said before Alan, it will be after the bathroom and dining room. So it'll be next year soonest. So I guess you having a play depends how your plans go.

I saw that track earlier on. For a Scalex track it's OK but doing it in wood gives you much greater scope for designing a good track to drive rather than just looking good. Also of course, magnets won't work so you actually have to drive the cars properly instead of them being glued to the track. I tried a magnet car once and hated it. Impossible to do anything with it, it just went round and round.

Anyway, I do fancy the idea of landscaping the track. It'll probably be on two 8 x 4 sheets in an 'L' shape with a possible extension piece. We shall see.
