Loved him as Arthur Daley in Minder although he had a career spanning 70 years apparently. Has died at 90 so a very good innings indeed.
Yes, a great shame but you can hardly complain about reaching 90.
I believe he was an orphan who was taken in by Alastar Sim and his wife - weird, as he sort of resembles Sim and in fact played Scooge as a younger man in 'A Christmas Carol', with Sim playing Scooge as an older man.
He was brilliant as Arthur Daley in Minder and his performance changed the whole show which originally was centred on the 'minder', Terry McCann, with Daley as a supporting character but after a couple of seasons and the popularity of Daley going through the roof the axis of the series changed and it became a show about Daley with Terry as the support.
A superb character actor, probably one of the best there was or ever will be.
He was also 'Flash Harry' in the wonderful St Trinians films in the 50's and 60's where he played alongside Alastair Sim.

Created a great Character on screen, and apparently a very well loved person in real life!
Another one of the greats gone, but not forgotten.
Rest in peace George.
