I've heard of this crowd funding stuff but never looked into it before.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I can't see the actual price of the finished article?

This looks like opportunism to me not to mention the dodgy claims:
1) Reduce Motor rumble: How would increasing the load on the bearing reduce rumble?
2) Massive flywheel effect Improves rotational stability: Would this matter that much for a DD let alone the SL1200?
3) Bring the Technics Direct Drive to true High Fidelity Vinyl Playback: So, without the very likely overpriced ring, the SL1200 is not true hi-fi!

I've heard the effects of a similar peripheral weight that Clearaudio make on one of their turntables.
Horrible thing - its use sucked the life out of the record it was placed on.

TT weights standard ones start @ $500 to $900 Usd , more than the SL1200 uk price new
fantastic solution to a problem that does not exist ,just buy a RCM or new cartridge or tonearm
