View Full Version : FS: Denon DL-S1 MC cartridge
Denon DL-S1
Denon’s very best MC. Very nice detailed cartridge with a high end sound. Uses non-magnetic coil formers with only a few coil windings to keep things light which is very unusual in this price range. It helps it be very fleet of foot, very refined, natural and detailed. Bass is well defined. This cartridge was just bought to try but I had too many other carts on the go at the time to get the best out of it. It’s only done about 10 hours maximum! Boxed in all original packaging with its rather lovely wooden case.

nice, this will go pretty quickly.
Superb cartridge - I use one myself. Genuine 'high-end' performance for mid-price money. Honestly, this baby will perform on similar sonic lines to most £2-3k MC 'exotica' from the usual desirable suspects...
Someone snap if up fast, as this is bargain city!! :exactly:

so tempted but want a DECCA cart!
Different animals... But the DL-S1 is by far the biggest sonic bargain! ;)
Honestly, it will rival your Cadenza Black......

Probably will, you ever heard one in the flesh? Just out of interest how would you describe the presentation of the DL-S1??
Yes, I know the Black pretty well. What do I think of the DL-S1? Well, read my initial thoughts when I bought one:

It's a very special cartridge, the likes of which no-one other than Denon could produce for the price!! :)
Marco.
Still for sale.
Maybe trade for a nice DAC with cash either way.
To ensure next weekend is full of win, buy this for a reduced price of £375

 Should have got this myself. always wanted to try one :(
I love the DL304 (which is supposed to be similar) but its a bit too light/thin sounding in general. I suspect the S1 would be spot on in most areas.
Hope you enjoy it Adam.

Thanks Colin,
I used an S1 during the 'Testing' stage of my Technics and it made the shortlist but as it was a loaner I couldn't try it for as long as I'd have liked. Amongst other things, it's a great match for my arm & phono stage so I'm pretty confident it will be a keeper!
Congratulations, Adam, on your new acquisition. I think you'll love it!

Well, what does it sound like?
Well, what does it sound like?
Neutral :)
Sorry I'm not very good at the descriptive as I strive for neutrality and this one passes all my tests:-
An Elvis bootleg where you can hear fingers wiping across the bass strings as they're plucked but barely audible actual 'bass'. Perfect, nothing added, nothing taken away (Probably due to terrible mic placement).
Massive Attack Mezzanine; bass flat down to 40Hz like being slapped in the chest with a spade.
Zero IGD even on very heavy guitar driven music
Very high end detail retrieval.
Vastly extended frequency extremes compared to similarly priced carts.
-
Nothing I can think of to fault it to be honest.
If I'd paid 2k for it I wouldn't have felt ripped off.
I think I'll keep this one for now :)
Told ya! ;) Visually, it suits your V rather well, too.
Every discerning music lover should have a DL-S1 in their life...
Marco.

Glad to hear you like it Adam but  again!
Does anyone have any ideas how much these cost new when imported?, - and what's the best/cheapest place to import from.
