A couple of weeks ago, we had zero cucumbers in the greenhouse and the salad was eaten without any. This week we have a glut of the damn things:rolleyes:

Ronnie made a soup with some onions, bacon etc. I thought the idea sounded so horrid that I refused to join her as I have always thought cucumber was tasteless limp stuff. I had a spoon of hers when it was hot and it was disgusting.

However..... chilled with some herbs and a dash of cream, it is unbelievably delicious and refreshing, especially when eaten with a french stick garlic bread.

No vampires will come within a kilometer of our place today, when I make garlic bread it falls this side of the trades descriptions act with the accent on 'garlic'.

Now we know what to do with the rest. Really surprising the difference in flavour hot and cold.

Try sprinkling a bit of black pepper on cucumber slices. Then put a slice of cheese or ham on top of that. Then get two slices of bread. Butter them and stick the ham/cheese/cucumber between the two pieces of bread. Enjoy with a cup of tea or an ice cold beer.

For some reason the black pepper makes the cucumber taste a lot better. It's quite a popular combination in some parts of the West Indies.

Sounds a bit posh:)

Beer sounds alright but please don't mention tea in conversation with me. Disgusting stuff which should never be allowed past an Englishman's lips:spew:

You are lucky to have so many , so early , Gordon :)

I have about 25 plants that are a week or so away from producing their first , and then like you ,its going to be BOOM !!

I usually buy white vinegar , and put a crushed garlic clove or 2 in it ,with some sugar and a sweetener or 2 , and then peel the cucumbers with a carrot peeler , chop up and soak them for a day or 2 . Great on your butties;)

Ronnie is the gardener and if she tells a plant to grow...it grows. Although in most respects I would describe her as perfect ( obviously, she is in the room) for some reason, her culinary education has been lacking somewhere and she has omitted to add vinegar to her list of acceptable foodstuffs. I love it but can't usually be bothered to prepare two separate lots of food. However, given the number of these green sausages that are threatening to overwhelm the greenhouse, I might just prepare a few individual portions. Yours sounds good as does Stan's. Not sure about curried cucumber though even though there are recipes in my curry bible.
