Hardly, but the newest member here, for as moment at least..
Hi - Steve here, and there is a clue as to where I live in my username.
I was guided here by a post on OcUK forums, and have spent the last few hours browsing to try to find out about DAC's, and have already seen a few names I know from other forums - my username is the same on all other forums I frequent, so maybe some of you will remember me and my endless boring questions..
My hifi was all naim (52, supercap, 250, SBL's) with vinyl by Gyrodec, but now is all Avondale modded Naim, with an Orbe/SME 1V Te Kiatora Rua into a Tom Evans Groove phonostage.
I am hoping to connect up my pc to my hifi soon, so here I am, ready to ask all those questions we beginners ask, so apologies in advance !

EDIT - Pictures will follow when I get a decent internet connection, so hold on please !
I am way out in rural Spain, and get phone and internet via a microwave system which only just works - meaning that whenever the weather is anything less than perfect, we loose both. I am in the process of trying to sort this out, but many of my silly and obvious questions will come from me being unable to surf the internet properly - we had speeds of 2kbs/sec earlier, and rarely get about 20, so please bear with me, and what may be infrequent visits here. We also get power cuts on a regular basis to add to the fun, though we do get some sun at times..

Hi Steve, I don't get out much, so we won't have met elsewhere - welcome to AoS and good to meet you. Before any one else asks - what sort of music do you like?

Plenty of people will be happy to help linking up a PC - plenty of people will suggest getting a DAC - many of those will recommend a Beresford (Stan Beresford is also a member here) and some of those including me are very happy owners of the Caiman DAC - but all obviously depends on what you want to do, how much you want to spend, what format/software etc - so get stuck in and ask away!

Morning all, from Southern Spain - inland from Mojacar, Almeria, a little village called Lubrin (try a google to see what amusing products have the same name..)

Alex - you say you don't get out much, and your title is Senior Member - is this telling me something ?
So, what music do I listen to. I am 51, so have a pile of vinyl from the 70's, 80's and so on, with another pile of CD's too, covering most popular stuff but excluding rap, opera, and much recent manufactured pop. Classical is very limited, but otherwise anything goes.
I was guided here by Labarum who posted on another forum about Beresford DACs and have already been in touch with Stan about the Caiman, but more about that when I get posting 'proper'
Got to go - I am both Mum and Dad at present, as Kate works in the UK, and the school run beckons..

Hi Steve

I thought you might be in southern Spain with your weather comment. My dad lives part of the time in Spain, and he rang me last night and was telling me about a very massive thunder storm that was hitting the area he lives in at the time he was ringing.

I'm not "senior" in the American sense, i.e. I can go out, without borrowing Cliff's bag - I just don't... (no, I'm not "tagged" either!) but as my only friends are internet buddies :violin:you'll find me here quite often!

Just been out watching the most amazing storm - thunder and lightning to scare the pants off anyone, even a senior member...!
I am amazed we still have internet, or even lights, as it is about as scary as I have seen here !
Old system pics wil follow soon, but I need to find them - I am in the process of rebuilding my pc, and adding hard drives, so am unsure what is backed up where. New pictures will entail me tidying the music room, so a long wait is likely..

Hola Steve.

¡Bienvenido al foro de El Arte Del Sonido!

I remember a storm I witnessed in Salamanca. I watched it approach my apartment building from the (I think) south/south-west, throwing bolts to the ground like an angry Greek god. It eventually passed right over my apartment building and, when it did, it let out a peal of thunder so loud I'm not ashamed to admit I ran inside. Besides, I was standing on a metal balcony, so better safe than crispy! :lolsign:

Espero que encuentres los datos que buscas sobre DACs. Ya te hubiera dado cuenta de que soy un "miembro subalterno" también, pero ya descubro que la gente aquí es muy amable, cortés y informado. Estoy seguro de que te ayudará. :)

Feel free to correct my Spanish - it's been a while!
