Pioneer PD-S703 As A Transport

I have a couple of Pioneer DVD's that I am using as transports only, they are both 717's

Can anyone tell me if it would be an upgrade to use something like the PD-S703 stable platter type CD's as a transport?

I'm using a Pioneer PD-S505 Precision CD player as a transport and it sounds superb. I also have the 717 and I reckon the 505 has the edge (and it's a lot smaller).

I know the Precision is supposed to be a good player but they don't come up very often so was wondering if another stable platter player would be better than the 717

Thanks Geoff been keeping an eye on that one.... would the 505 be better than the 703 ? I have no idea where each fits within the Pioneer range.. :doh:

....for what it is worth I run a Pioneer PD-S705 with my Bushmaster MK2 DAC. I find it excellent and possibly better than the Squeezebox Touch I use for most of my listening. Certainly for the £40 I paid for a mint PD-S705 it was a no brainer - as the article says reads pretty much all scratched discs quickly and quietly. (BTW my PD-S705 has both Coaxial and Toslink Digital outputs. Also the Analogue Outputs and Display can be switched off for potentially better sound).

I also have a PD-S505 & think it's the other way around. :P

I also have a DV-505, again, I prefer it to my PD-S505.

The 505 is better at transport duties than the 703 Bev. PDS-505 & 705 are extremely similar.

...on an aside, none of the above are as good as my Halide Bridge USB to SPDIF converter.
