I just want to drop in to compliment Stan on his exceptionally quick response rate to queries. I recently purchased the Capella ( to add to my BM2) and had a problem setting up the device with turned out to be an issue at my end. Stan patiently ( or maybe impatiently for all I know) kept up the communications until we figured out the source of my problem.

It's very rare to get such a personal level of service these days and it deserves to be acknowledged.

It must be just me then,,,Still waiting some advice from Stan re the annoying "hiss" I have in my system which, I have painstakingly narrowed down to my Capella. It sounds superb mind you but the "hiss" is annoying:scratch:

I also haven't heard back regarding my Firmware 2 upgrade on my Bushmaster MK2. Although it all works fine it didn't look like a new chip. A leg was bent and folded which, I had to straighten VERY carefully.

Hey ho...the fact he does correspond personally is more than you would get from your high street store. There are a lot of good UK Cos (Amptatstic, Temple Audio, Tisbury Audio and Angle Audio) who also offer excellent customer service which, I am proud to say I have built up a nice little system around their products :)

Send the Capella back so that I have it with me whilst I check out what the issue is that you are experiencing.

As for the chip, you did not ask for a reply, so I assumed that you were just making some comments. I had no idea however that it was bugging you and you were extremely dissatisfied with my level of service and response. Take it out the DAC, cut some of the pins off and send me a picture of it. Once you have done that I shall issue you with a refund right away. You can then rest assured that you won't ever have a problem with the chip ever again.
I have to program and then fit each chip in a DAC so that I can test it. This will obviously make some markings on the chip pins. I am unable to send anyone one without having done that particular procedure. So each chip will show signs of wear on the pins. But I am a bit surprised that you would have a bent pin. Maybe it got bent when I put it in the protective sleeve for shipping. Maybe it got bent whilst being extracted from the holder. Who knows. I shall however accept it as my fault that it occurred.

.... I have never had anything other than excellent customer service from Stan either by email or phone.

As a matter of interest I run a Capella from a 12V Anker battery and get no hiss. A number of threads on Head-Fi seem to indicate that a 15v power supply gives hiss. I cannot be sure about this as I ordered my Capella without a power supply as I already had a 12V battery but maybe worth trying either a 12V PSU or battery to cure the hiss problem. Given you have a Bushmaster MK2 have you tried powering the Capella with the 12V supply from the Bushmaster (and then fly lead to the Bushmaster) ?

I count myself as very lucky that I have built a hi fi that gives me tremendous pleasure without breaking the bank.

Guys like Stan are looking for constructive criticism to let them move they're game on.

I have entered into a long term relationship with a few great british hi fi proponents. Stan with his dacs and head/pre amp /John at temple audio/mark grant with his cables/steve at electric beach with his speakers.

Real human beings that you can talk to-and give a fuck about what they do......

My comment was not a personal complaint on Stan or his excellent products. It was purely an honest reply to a post on customer service. I can only comment on my own personal experience which, I have done and feel a slightly aggressive response here, a bit unjust:confused: I will continue to be very interested in the Beresford product range and have no hesitation in buying or recommending their products.

Hi Theadmans, I run my Capella off of 12V 7Ah SLA battery but will try your suggestions and let you know. Cheers

Hi again Theadmans,

I have tried your suggestions. Running from the supplied PSU resulted in a slightly louder hiss and a "hum" which, became more pronounced when touching the front control buttons. Even louder when touching the Balance control. The battery set up suggested is how I run the Capella already. I have also tried just running the Capella without feeding the Bushmaster but no change.

I have taken up Stan's suggestion and will be returning the unit to him to check out soon. I'll let you know the outcome. Cheers

Ah OK when you say the supplied PSU do you mean the one that came with Capella?

I think that the supplied one is 15v.

I was actually thinking you could try the one from your Bushmaster which is 12v.

As I say I had read this as a solution to hiss on the Head-fi forum.

Another thought is you might want to try lowering the gain on the Capella as this might also reduce hiss.
