Bottom of the range Kef from decades ago. Might be worth trying at the right price.

I had a pair, i found the sound they gave to be very safe, as in smooth and laid back.
what i liked about them was their looks, the front looked like leather and the wood effect sides made them look more costly.
for me i loved their looks but i sold them as i found them abit boring to my ears.
mind you my taste is more geared towards rock.
I also had the bigger version of these too and they sounded alot better but still smooth and safe.

They sounded boxey when I had them. Didn't image that well. Wharfedale Diamond speakers sound better in my opinion.

These Kef Coda 8s (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KEF-CODA-8-Compact-Size-Black-Ash-Bookshelf-Loud-Speakers-/141719492688?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item20ff23d850) are a good buy. They're a dynamic, fun sounding speaker without sounding harsh (unless your electronics are harsh).

The Cresta 2 and (IIRC) the Concerto 2 were, I think, 'BADA dealer' specials initially, with a proper wood finish, but cheaper than cheap inside. Like many KEFs, they may have measured well for all I know, but there was a sort of hashy 'squeak' around the crossover region which put me off and we couldn't sell them anyway. I think KEF ended up taking them back for credit.

We're the Rogers LS7 a better sounding speaker ?

I'd have LS7's any day myself, but they need free space around them for the bass to work best.

The Rogers LS7 was a proper speaker. The KEF was just slung together cheaply.

would imagine there was a big difference in price? ls7 was an excellent, quality speaker, in all its forms. Heard the version with the metal dome tweeter, and it was very good. The Kef's were pretty lowly but ok for the money

I had a pair briefly. Don't recall a metal dome though. It was quite a while ago. Nice speaker though. Blowed if I can remember what I did with them. Must have just flogged them on.

The ones I heard had a titanium dome tweeter if memory serves Geoff

Kef cresta 2, any good?

I've heard some original Codas and liked the dynamics, but the switch on thump was something of a nuisance.

I had no idea they were active:lol:

KEF re-used old model names almost as much as B&O did....

The LS7T when brand new could take your fillings out. Ten years on, I heard a well used and loved pair and they were as sweet as a nut :) B&W 601's (series 1) seemed to sweeten up too with a few years behind them.

Fun sounding. Great description! Ive just got a pair of these, swapped out my tannoy floorstanders with them, have gone back into a rock listening phase simply bacause of these speakers. :)

Mercury M3s. I still like them, they are in my computer set up now ( pics in the gallery ) the kefs just seem to have more attack, drums sound that little more crisp, everything is a little more detailed.

Did you have a pair of the Kef coda8s? My akai amp may be toast, wondering if you had a amp you would recomend?

I bought a pair of Kef coda 8s when they first came out (mid 90s). I ran them off an Arcam alpha 6+ amp because it was the What-hifi? magazine amp of the year - but I wouldn't bother with the Arcam because I think you can do a lot better (they're a bit warm and soft sounding). I recently bought a brand new Cambridge Audio Topaz AM1 for £80 and I think it's an absolute bargain, either that or something further up the Cambridge Audio range would be my suggestion.

My first decent hifi was an Arcam 7 with an 8p through mordant short Ms25is, did sound nice with a debut record deck, but I totally agree, having heard a wider range of equipment now I wouldnt have Arcam again, I would like more detail now. I will have a look at the cambridge audio range though.
